Dr. Harry Shen

My interactions with him have caused significant emotional distress, delays in necessary medical care, and a complete loss of trust in his ability to provide safe and compassionate treatment. My first interaction with Dr. Shen occurred via telephone. During this call, he informed me that the side effects of the medication I had been prescribed could cause a heart attack and lead to death. He then demanded that I repeat this information back to him twice. His tone and manner were demeaning to the point that I was brought to tears. This was my introduction to his approach to patient communication. Dr. Shen also refused to acknowledge or consider medical diagnoses that I have had for years. Instead, he dismissed them entirely and insisted on his own assumptions—made without any examination. He instructed me not to take my prescribed migraine medication unless it was an absolute last resort and refused to consider any alternative treatments. Instead, he told me to take what he referred… to as the “proper cocktail” of 1000 mg of Tyl. and 400 mg of Ibupr. On October 25, I was seen for symptoms consistent with a possible UTI. Although the lab results were negative, he ordered an ultrasound. He initially failed to recognize the report indicating that I had ovarian cysts. An MRI was ordered, but then had to be rescheduled because he did not send the necessary documentation. During this time, I was left anxious and fearful about possible cancer, while the delays caused by his oversight prolonged the diagnostic process unnecessarily. I did not receive a follow-up for this scan until December. His behavior during appointments has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of empathy and professionalism. At one point, he asked me—an adult woman—whether I knew what fallopian tubes were and what their function is. His tone was extremely condescending and dismissive. He repeatedly exhibits no bedside manner, no compassion, and no respect toward his patients. Additionally, he failed to send yet another prescription to the pharmacy, despite insisting that he had done so. Two nurses were able to verify that the prescription was never sent. This pattern of neglect is unacceptable. In my opinion, if Dr. Shen ever received training in professionalism, compassion, or patient-centered care, he either did not take it seriously or failed to apply it in practice. As a family doctor, it is his responsibility to care for patients with respect, empathy, and diligence. My experience with him has been the opposite
