Dr. Harry Bruce Sperber, MD

Dr. Sperber is the real deal. He follows up consistently on care, is caring and communicative, and responds quickly and proactively to questions and concerns. His nursing staff, especially Sharon, is also top-notch. GI issues require patience and openness, and Dr. Sperber has both in spades.

I don't write many reviews for anything. But I turned 51 and had to get a colonoscopy for that reason. He was cordial, sharp, sympathetic, shook my hand and said I would be OK. He was right. After the procedure he again shook my hand and said everything was OK. They were very busy but the entire staff was very soothing and professional. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I went in for a colonscopy. Office was clean and on time. Professional staff. Very happy with the care given.

Nurses were rude. Just to schedule an appointment they had me on hold for over 30 minutes and never checked back or suggested to simply call back when they were available.

Dr's medical reputation is excellent. However, system at his endoscopy center less than desirable. Front office staff excellent, but techs unable to judge when they need assistance & seem apprenhensive about asking for it. Numerous references to my 'colonoscopy' when I was in for an endoscopy; would not refer elderly or uninformed who are timid about questioning their medical care. RN goes over test results with patients, not the dr as was the case with previous experience with GI procedures. Dr rating - unknown. GI surg center rating - 2 at best. Proceed with caution.

I think he is probably a well qualified doctor. And, I think unfairly, I received from the ER at Bayfront Medical in St. Pete to the nurses in ICU very bad information on this doctor. First, I was told as my husband was being wheeled up to ICU from ER that this doctor was no good. Next, I was told by the nurses in ER that he was no good. Apparently, he is really disliked by the help at Bayfront. I don't know why. I simply asked for a second opinion on my husband's condition, because he was critical, and not because I thought that Dr. Sperber wasn't any good. But, apparently, the nurses in ICU told him the reason was that I didn't like him. That is just stupid and couldn't be further from the truth. And, he is so nice, he called us and asked if there were a problem.He is a good doctor and the second opinion agreed with his first diagnosis.

Does not listen fully to problems and symptoms. Has preconceived notions and perhaps a limited or narrow specialty. Condescending. Fine for routine work such as colonoscopy; do not trust his ability to think outside the box.
