I had a very serious spinal surgery with Dr. Harvey Smith — a lumbar decompression and fusion procedure to address Cauda Equina Syndrome — and I can say with full confidence that Dr. Smith and his entire team are absolutely exceptional. From the first consultation through every follow-up visit, Dr. Smith has shown genuine care, compassion, and professionalism. He truly listens, takes time to understand, and explains everything clearly. His expertise, skill, and attention to detail gave me peace of mind even during one of the most difficult times of my life. The Penn Orthopaedics team is equally amazing — always kind, thorough, and responsive. They consistently follow up, review my X-rays, and monitor my recovery with great care. Every visit feels personal, never rushed. I am still on a long road to full recovery, but thanks to Dr. Smith and his outstanding team, I’m making steady progress. Waited 3 hrs to see him in CC and spent 5 minutes with me for a surgery consult,then his PA took over and seemed clueless. No call back with test results or f/u. Any physician that spends this little time for a first visit says a lot about the care you’ll receive after. Disappointed Penn U.

After dealing with pain associated with a lumbar herniated disc for years, seeing multiple doctors, taking various medication, trying a handful of "conservative" options, and getting injections; Dr. Smith truly stands out above the rest. He is an excellent listener, speaks clearly and concisely, and takes the time to answer all of my questions. He's excellent at sharing his knowledge and expertise in a way that you can understand so that you can make your own informed decisions about your healthcare. I think this is so important in a doctor! I've been to over 10 appointments with this doctor in the last year and a half. I finally elected to have him do surgery on my disc a little over 7 weeks ago and I have nothing but positive things to say about the entire experience. I feel so incredibly thankful to have found this doctor! I'm sure I'll be back to my old self in no time thanks to his care and his entire team. They truly go above and beyond to provide exceptional and professional… care for their patients! If you need a great spine surgeon, don't hesitate to make an appointment with him!

The best Dr there is,, he has done 2 he's on me for them a success still have pain but the main objection was a success

Great experience. Dr. Smith spent time with me to review my x-rays and MRI and showed me what was wrong. After a 35 minute appointment and several follow-up visits I elected for surgery and now 6 weeks after surgery haven't felt this good in years.
