Dr Henrik Wilms

My first visit with Dr wilms went great. He listened to myself and my wife over concerns with my Parkinsons. It's been years since I've had a doctor who actually listened. I would recommend him to any of my friends and family.

We really like Dr Wilms. He is strait with us. He always tells us what to expect. He takes time with us.

When I went to see doctor Henrik Wilms he will talk to you and hear what you have to say about what is wrong with you. I will always go to him to have him take care of me.

Dr Welm has treated me great. He listens and takes time to talk over all my concerns.

I appreciate all Dr. Wilms has done for me. I’m not an easy case and he has been very patient, understanding and helpful. I like him and would recommend him highly.

Dr Wilms was very professional and did an excellent job of explaining my condition and examined me thoroughly! He’s really knowledgeable on Parkinson’s and DBS surgery and I’m glad to have him as my doctor!

I was perhaps a tad hasty & still upset w/ my appointment with Doctor Wilms yesterday on the 19th at approximately 10:45 am. Initially, I received a phone call in Abilene (where I live) that Dr. Wilms needed to see me at 10:15 or 10:30 am rather than the scheduled visit of 11:00 am. I told them that I had not even left Abilene & chances are I could not make it much sooner. Given that Dr. Wilms office at Texas Tech is about 180 miles from Abilene, it would be a rush. She proceeded to tell me that if I “did” see him as late as 10:45 am, he would not be able to spend the usual time with me as normal. I do not like the notion of receiving less in my level of treatment or care, and feeling rushed. The receptionist told me that my only other option was at 3:00 that afternoon. Sadly, I had made prior arrangements to pick up my car from a body shop in Abilene & return my rental by 5:00 pm. Clearly, that would have been impossible. My rating has improved somewhat bc I have managed to calm… down after a day of reflection. He is a skilled & knowledgeable neurologist & this was my very first disappointment as his patient. I wasn’t upset bc I didn’t hear what I wanted to hear or my expectations were not met. When I convey to a doctor that I hurt & have experienced extreme stiffness & a particular medicine has made my condition feel better. (Granted, this med is typically for Parkinson’s), but with my dystonia it helps... I don’t want, nor do I expect “any” doctor to tell me it must be a placebo effect. My pain is real and it would be nice to think that my neurologist, rather than suggesting to me it must be a mental reliance, or similar to a psychological benefit. In other words, no productive validity with the exception of my believing it works. No, I do know what pain is & I can recognize an improvement. (All of the above commentary of events is non-verbatim, but my understanding of how it transpired is just.) The 5-minutes or less spent with Dr. Wilms was rushed & entirely a waste. I left his office feeling very sad, disgusted, & disappointed. However, in all fairness to Dr.Wilms, he is a very astute & a gifted physician. It would be remiss of me to ignore his positive qualities.

Wilm’s is Incapable of listening to a patient without making a prior assumption. I received literature on a particular medication via my pharmacy & regrettably lost it. I then referred to the internet. He assumed that I was the typical patient that reads an online article & suddenly I have my MD. Any doctor that refuses to allow a patient to communicate & prefers to berate their thoughts... Well, he simply is too quick to pass judgment. I am not experiencing a placebo effect or psychosomatic episode. My pain is real & just because time for you was rushed, think twice before embarrassing me in front of your shadowing med students. I agree, just as I had mentioned during our visit, I Do NOT have Parkinson's. I have never suggested that I do. I have (with a previous neurologist) been diagnosed with Parkinsonism. Rather than having a decent & respectful conversation & explaining the “whys”, I am essentially (non-verbatim) told, “If I think this medicine helps it is a placebo effect. Do… not rush through an appointment and dismiss your patient as hypochondriac; listen first & then politely have a discussion.

I like him and he listens. He is thorough and very professional.
