Dr. Herbert George Roehrich, MD

Seeing Dr. Roehrich for the last time, I was struck by his closing remarks concerning the efficacy of any drug, any medication, any long-term anti-depressant or short-term "upper" or "downe"r in the face of stress. Whether its stress traceable to "exogenous" or "endogenous" sources, the fact remains that no chemical has been found that's any more effective in alleviating let alone "removing" stress than counseling and exercise. Yet Dr. Roehrich is knowledgeable about each drug--from tricyclics, MAO inhibitors and once popular but since discredited approaches to the latest cutting-edge developments in serotonin-reuptake inhibitors and the modifications to each drug by big pharma companies competing for their fair share of the dollars from consumers seeking relief from the stress unique to them. Dr. Roehrich's strength is ultimately not in this knowledge of the field he commands so thoroughly nor in his ability to select the best drug for each of his patients. It's his ability to… know whom he can "trust" to learn for themselves the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of each of the many products in a diverse marketplace. Of course, he makes recommendations but, in the end, it's the patient who must discover for himself which product if any makes the difference. It's that trust than engenders in the patient trust in his own ability to deal with the disease that, more than any other, is responsive to the patient taking responsibility for his own diagnosis and cure. No doubt Dr. Roehrich serves as a monitor, referee, and, in some extreme cases, a practitioner "policing" the products his patient feels is her only relief. But in such instances he probably realizes that he has failed in leading the patient to knowledge critical to realizing his own cure, his own power to deal with the stress that had provoked the search for a medical expert. Dr. Roehrich has taught me that, in the end, the patient must assume the role of the physician, taking "ownership" of his illness and its cure and, from that position of knowledge and power, practice the advice expressed in Biblical scripture: "Physician, heal thyself."

I am no longer a patient of Dr. Roehrich's simply because I live in another state and it is impractical. I would be if I could. He allowed me to continue under his care until I found someone I felt comfortable with. Most importantly: whenever I would thank Dr. Roehrich for helping me, he never took credit, he always reminded me that I was the one putting in the hard work, he was there to help me along with the right medication balance, but I had to do the hard work of dealing with the rest of it. More than once I got a late evening call from him because I had made an emergency call to him so he got me into in-patient care. He genuinely cares. I knew this from the first meeting I had with him as a teenager. I was one of the least med-compliant patients ever and he never gave up. He held onto hope for me and kept reminding me that I could, and would, get better and see brighter days. He took a whole-life approach to treating me (not just my psych but also migraines as well, and keeping… in mind not to give me meds hat caused weight gain whenever possible). Twenty years as his patient. I am ever so thankful for his care. I have had other psychiatrists who just throw meds at me, and some that I have had to come up with my own treatment plan. I now I have someone who is similar in style to Dr. Roehrich and I pay out of pocket because she doesn't take my new insurance, but the level of care these gem of people give is priceless.

I have nothing but praise for Dr. Roehrich; I agree with every previous review. I trust him and his care unconditionally.

Dr. Roehrich has been a huge part of my life for almost 15 years now. Je hss saved my life ans for that, I will forever be grateful. He genuinely cares. There has been numerous times I have needed him w out an appointment and he has always made sure I am ok no matter how busy he is. Truly an angel in disguise. Definately worth more than. 5 stars.

Dr. Roerich takes the time to talk to you. He doesn't just write a prescription and send you in your way. He has been a huge part of my 8 years of sobriety

I have been a patient of Dr. Roehrich for approx. 16 years. From day 1 I have had complete confidence in him. When I need to see him even if scheduling doesn't have the time, he makes time. I never feel rushed when I do see him and he really seems care about his patients a great deal. I have had to call him after hours several times over the years and he has always called me back even if sometimes it was 10:00 p.m. I would recommend him to any one who is having mental illness issues!!!!!
