Dr. Herman Mathias, MD

I’ve watched the revolving door of this doctor's office for over 20 years. The office staff turns over constantly too but the newbies are consistently inept, the one exception is Maria (I adore her) who has been there from the beginning. Except for her, the others cannot be trusted to do anything right. Good doctors have appeared in the office and then disappeared, usually in less than a year - but bad doctors have also, it’s a crap shoot what you'll get from one appointment to the next. Dr. Mathias, the head honcho, is cold, distant and apparently doesn’t understand emotions in others. It's obvious he thinks his patients are dolts, well, we aren’t and I’m moving on....

I have been a patient here for 19 years and they are always kind and very polite. My needs are always taken care of.

They even tell you they have too much work, go somewhere else!

Repeated request for basic information (I.e., medical forms, prescription refills, follow-ups) go unanswered by entire staff including medical office assistants and N.P Brenda Salas-Amigon. It appears that the entire culture of this facility is toxic, where it's a reoccurring habit to resist performing basic job functions. Repeated requests to obtain a list of medications for my elderly mom were ignored despite being the POA. Don't even try to leave a message on the answering machine b/c over half the time its full; when you are able to get through and leave a message you will not recieve a return call. Attempts to fax forms over do not work because the fax machine is regularly broken. Attempting to assign a new pharmacy for prescription pickup resulted in a complex unrealistic request for forms to be faxed by the medical living facility overseeing my mom's medical care. I ended up having to pay out of pocket to get a physician to complete required forms to move my mom into a medical… facility because the staff would not cooperate (CA 602 & DNR form).

Found his office attends to patients promptly, staff could use some additional training on customer service. Overall very good.

This Dr Did an EKG on my wife which the monitor labeled an abnormal EKG. Including a cardiac diagnosis which wasn't true. At the end of the visit, he gave a copy to me. Said it was abnormal and disappeared. Since I was involved with EKG's, I looked at the EKG and immediately saw Lead 2 was missing. I asked the technician where's lead 2, she pointed to Lead V2. I knew immediately she had no special training so I didn't go any further with her. Instead I waited to see Dr Mathias and put it down in front of him and said "What's wrong with this picture". He looked at me and didn't address the machines interpretation or tell me anything instead he denied anything was wrong. I pointed it out to what was wrong and he still denied it. I had to go somewhere else to show my wife that she was really normal. That's just a small sample of strange behavior for a medical professional. You ask for a copy of your medical records and the office manager comes out to give you the Spanish Inquisition. Like… they are afraid of something. In the course of seeing different doctors at his place there was wrong diagnosis, wrong drugs prescribed, some drugs taken chronically dosages where changed for no reason, etc. Labs came back that other labs could not duplicate. One of the doctors could not see why test results are wrong. I had to ask the labs to make corrections, which they did. One Dr could not interpret a test result and asked me to get the lab to interpret it for her. I asked Dr Mathias why he and his staff have no hospital privileges. He didn't give a satisfactory answer. He wouldn't go over all test results because it would take too much time.He is bad for your health, STAY AWAY!!

This medical clinic delayed treatment for my dad which resulted in his death on Wednesday . Shameful that they would make it so difficult to get referrals in a manner. Dad had difficulty breathing for the last 5 months. He was still waiting for a referral to a pulmonary doctor. Referred my dad to hospice without a medical diagnosis .
