Dr. Hien Binh Nguyen, MD

Dr. H Nguyen has been my mother's primary physician for about 6 years.

I have no words to describe the nightmare Dr. Hien Nguyen proved to be to my family in a time of tremendous need and sadness. My husband and I (married 62 years) were his patients for about two years when my husband got diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. It was heartbreaking to realize that as my family tried to get my husband the best possible oncologist to treat him in the short period of time we already knew we had, Dr. Nguyen made the situation impossible by refusing us the referral we needed to see the best Doctor we could find at the best cancer institute in our area. Shockingly, and to our huge despair, Dr. Hien Nguyen argued that we were ONLY allowed to take my husband to the one oncologist he recommended, period. This oncologist he wanted us to take my husband to had the most horrible and scary reviews and recommendations from previous patients we've ever read! Even though the oncologist we wanted to take my husband to accepted our insurance, and even though the insurance… company itself sent Dr. Nguyen a specific letter approving the oncologist and cancer center we had chosen, Dr. Nguyen still refused to give us the referral!! No one could understand this, not even the insurance company!! He even told us that if they allowed us to chose our own specialists then all of their other patients would want to also chose their own specialists, and that would be a problem for them "logistically" speaking!! Well, my husband ended up seeing the oncologist my family chose (we didn't like the idea of this doctor FORBIDDING US from taking my husband to see a good reputable oncologist), so for this visit WE HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE NGUYEN REFUSED TO GIVE US THE REFERRAL. Sadly it was already too late for my husband, the cancer was too aggressive and he had to be taken to the emergency room soon after. My husband spent 8 days in the hospital, mostly in the ICU, where Dr. Hien Nguyen not ONCE came to see him, but instead sent his son Dr. Thomas Nguyen to see him. Dr. Thomas had never been my husband's doctor but for some reason the father never seems to go to hospitals to visit patients?. After 8 days in the hospital my husband was taken to hospice where he spent 2 days before he passed away. Not once at hospice neither of the 2 doctors Nguyen came to see him either. In short let me express to anyone that reads this, Dr. Nguyen turned a horribly sad situation for my family into an even bigger nightmare that I certainly wouldn't wish on anyone. He showed us at a critical time in my husband's life that he is in the business of referrals, not so much in the business of helping people stay healthy. My husband thought always that this doctor was his friend that he cared about our well being, sadly we realized too late that Dr. Nguyen's interest on us went only as far as a business deal. And no, I wouldn't recommend him to anyone!

Dr. Nguyen was my doctor for five years. He was unfailingly kind and personable and more importantly, his diagnostic skills were topnotch. I moved away or I'd still be his patient.
