As healthcare POA for a young adult patient with complex medical history, I witnessed concerning patterns during our 5-day encounter with Dr. Gessesse in September 2025. Critical Failures: - Never contacted patient treating specialist despite daily requests from family and repeated assurances from nursing staff that he would do so - Ordered diagnostic imaging on Day 1 but failed to ensure completion until Day 5 - Prescribed medications without reviewing documented medication failures or consulting with established care team - Never met with family/POA despite holding legal healthcare decision-making documents Staff Feedback: Multiple nurses independently described him as difficult to reach, does not communicate well, and does not return calls. One nurse specifically warned us about his poor communication, stating this was an ongoing issue. Staff appeared reluctant to contact him directly. Documentation Issues: - Critical information provided to multiple staff members never reached… patient chart - Discharge occurred without clear diagnosis or treatment plan - No evidence of reviewing patient complex medical history before prescribing Patient Safety Concerns: Patient with potential head trauma from a scooter accident and a history of neurological symptoms waited 5 days for basic imaging. When family advocated for appropriate care and requested chaplain/religious services, patient was abruptly discharged despite being on 1:1 supervision hours earlier. Bottom Line: Dr. Gessesse appears to practice in isolation, ignoring both family input and colleague consultation. The nursing staff cannot be reasonably expected to overcome a physician who will not engage effectively with the treatment team. Based on these observed patterns, he poses a threat to patients wherever contracted as a provider. This review reflects documented events and staff statements during September 2025.
