Dr. Holly Susan Gilmer-Hill, MD

Dr. Gilmer is a joke. She talked down to us as if we knew nothing. was very abrupt with my child. totally lacks compassion. very self absorbed. lives in her own world. She is not fit to be a doctor. How is she even practicing?? She needs to be investigated

Dr. Gilmer performed a second Chiari Surgery on my mom sept 2019. As a result she has a spinal fluid leak and the area is the size of a Plumb. Grand Rapids sent her by ambulance to Detroit Hospital so Gilmer can diagnose. GR said she needs A procedure or it could burst, infection other risks. Gilmer NEVER showed up. Called Hospital and told them to discharge with no plan of action. Choose another Doctor, Gilmer will make you worse not better. We feel helpless, Gilmer doesn't care about her patience only the money.

We had a consultation at 2pm. The office staff called at 1045am and said there were cancellations and to come in now. We packed up and drove across town and signed in at 1215pm.. I noticed that their were 4 other kids also waiting. Well.. its 5pm, and we still have not seen the doctor. No way!!!

Very knowledgeable, caring and I was back at work 8 weeks after surgery.

Dr. Gilmer operated on my then 3 year old daughter for a brain tumor. After the surgery, she came out and told my whole family that she "got it all and it was benign." Three months after Dr. Gilmer's surgery my daughter suffered another seizure and we were told that her brain tumor and come back. When we saw her Dr. Gilmer told me "we have what we call a recurrence. There was a piece of that tumor I just wasn't comfortable going to get in the fall." Essentially she told me she left a piece of the tumor during the original surgery and then lied to me and my family about it. Thankfully, we got to Detroit Children's Hospital and Dr. Sandeep Sood did an amazing follow-up surgery and saved my daughter's life. I would avoid Dr. Holly Gilmer at all costs. She nearly cost my daughter her life.

I had my 3rd decompression surgery with Dr Gilmer. She is a Wonderful Dr. She saw me everyday I was in the hospital and I had to have her paged a couple of times and her call back took less than 3 minutes! She truly cares about her patients!

I would not recommend Dr. Gilmer to anyone. She doesn't take the take the time to explain things to you or family members after surgical procedures. She comes out to talk to family and only says a few words. She has a horrible bed side manner...even the nurses at St. John think so. It's like she didn't believe me when I told her something was wrong with me. I ended up going to another neurosurgeon for a second opinion and had a much better outcome.

I saw Dr Gilmer and was not impressed. I waited two hours for doctor to visit with me for a "15" minute consulation. She is polite but doesn't look at you while explaining things. Dr Gilmer also didn't write in progress note the exact things she told me to my primary doctor. Strange. She is really quick to decide surgery without other testing. The office staff are terrible. Papers get faxed in and EASILY lost. Kim, a medical assistant, rudely interrupted my appt with doctor and says to me "did you get a referral to Dr Gilmer or did you find her online??"..extremely unprofessional. Then when I called her in regards to my insurance, Kim NEVER returned my call..2x. Debra deals with insurance aspects and is also unprofessional and rude. She hung up on me before and left me a shady voicemail in regards to returning her call. The whole experience at this office was terrible. Very glad I found a new neurosurgeon who is extremely compassionate, caring, and his bedside manner is fantastic. I… met with him twice to decide if surgery was necessary after other testing took place. The staff at his office are out of this world with being professional and friendly. I also have to be cleared by OPAC- anesthesiologist- before surgery. That is comforting. I have confidence in my surgical team and I know waiting for another opinion was meant to be.
