He joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1984, at which time he completed a M.P.H. in health policy.
Dr. Adger served as deputy director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy in 1997 …and 1998. He served from 1999-2005 as co-director of a federally funded strategic planning initiative, a role in which he advised the federal government and other entities about improving and expanding interdisciplinary education and training of health professionals in substance-use disorders.
His research interests include substance use disorders and medical education.
Dr. Adger is a past president of both the Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse and the National Association for Children of Alcoholics. He is recognized as a national leader and expert in the field of addiction medicine with a focus on adolescents and young adults.
