Dr. Howard Larry Stein, MD

When my pediatrician recommended we use dr. Stein I was a little bit nervous. He told me the doctor did not have the best bedside manner but he is an excellent surgeon and they still recommend I go there for a consult. I Have to say how pleasantly surprised I was once I got to the office. He was patient kind Let me ask questions anything I needed. But the absolute best thing about him was the care he gave my child. He was so kid friendly and made us feel so so comfortable. I cannot even tell you what an amazing experience we had. I would recommend everyone to use him for anything they may need. He was amazing.

My experience with Dr. Stein was a negative one. The only time he didn't have a cold bedside manner was when he exhibited impatience and disdain whenever I asked a question and was unsympathetic to my nervousness and pain both during my procedure and healing time. Unfortunately, I didn't follow my gut feeling about using his services during my consultation, but won't be making that mistake again.

I don't usually write reviews but I feel it necessary to warn other people NOT to stop at Dr. Stein's office. I went to see Doctor Stein for multiple issues I was concerned with. During the consultation, he asked me if I had seen any other doctors and I had said Yes. At this time he said that he thought that was a good thing. During the consultation, the doctor made me feel that my questions were annoying and since he had 29 years experience I guess I was suppose to just believe everything he had to say and not ask any of these "silly questions" as he made me feel they were. After the consult, I went to the woman at the front desk where she sits with an out dated typewriter and she was going to give me price quotes. She seemed to be having a hard time with getting the correct fees for any anesthesia that I may need after a certain number of routine hours. She had the fees for usual the amount of time a surgery would take but wanted to put down the "over-time" amounts if needed. … This took several calls to the hospital and she wasn't able to get the correct answer so she "thinks" she had it right as she went to type in the quotes. I started feeling like she didn't know what she was doing and I felt uncomfortable with the experience. I asked that after she talk to the doctor and confirm the prices that she mail them to me. Over a week went by and I never received them so I called. I left a message since no one picked up. I received a call back from the doctor himself who insisted he give me the prices over the phone. He didn't even apologize for the quote not being mailed. First red flag of many to follow. I said I'd rather have it mailed to me so I could clearly see all the variations of what we discussed. He just kept insisting for me to take them over the phone. I asked why? And he said I'm just going to go to another doctor since he wasn't the only one I saw. I found this to be a ridiculous thing to say and I replied that for such a serious operation it is good to get other opinions and, I reminded him that he agreed during the consult with me. Well, I guess that wasn't the case. Even during the consult he asked me who I had seen before him which I felt made him appear unprofessional and insecure. I told him I don't know why it was so hard to give me the price quote I asked for and I was still waiting for it over a week later. He then said that just like I have a right to see a doctor for a consultation that he also has the right to decide who he wants to operate on and he decided he didn't want to operate on me. Then he said "have a nice day" and hung up! I stood there completely shocked at how nasty a supposed "professional doctor" could talk to anyone like that! Last I checked, doctors do better if they are compassionate! A plastic surgeon deals with sensitive, personal issues, even more reason to handle people with understanding, caring and empathy. It amazes me that he is still in practice and has any patients at all! I guess his only patients are ones that Don't get other opinions and just take whatever Dr. Stein says as the one and only way things should be done. He thinks his 29 years experience should be enough for anyone to think he is the perfect surgeon for them! I wouldn't go to this nasty doctor if my life depended on it! Move on and don't waste your time!
