Dr. Hülya Bayir is the chief of the division of critical and palliative care and hospital medicine in the department of pediatrics at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Bayir has received many honors and awards for her clinical, teaching and research contributions, including 2021 Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 2018 Chancellor’s Distinguished Research Award from the University of Pittsburgh and 2017 Clinical Science Award from the Society for Free Radical Research-Europe Oxygen Club of California. She has published more than 200 articles, reviews, chapters, and editorials.
Dr. Bayir attended medical school at the Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey, and graduated in 1995. She received her training in pediatrics at the Hacettepe University Children’s Hospital, Ankara, Turkey (1995-1996) and State University of New York at Stony Brook (1996-1999). Dr. Bayir then completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (1999-2002). Dr. Bayir served for 20 years on the faculty of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Bayir is a member of the Neurotrauma Society, The American Society for Clinical Investigation, and The Association of American Physicians.
