Dr. Hussein Shaqra, MD

Words cannot begin to describe how distraught and traumatized I am after experiencing absolutely horrible care from Dr. Shaqra and his very unprofessional and rude staff. I came to Dr. Shaqra for a time sensitive cardiac clearance two weeks out from surgery, which I felt was plenty of time. The very first thing Dr. Shaqra said was tell me that there wasn’t enough time to clear me, to which I pushed back given the surgery date was already confirmed, and I felt two weeks was sufficient timing. After being asked to complete a stress test (he doesn’t conduct these tests in his office like most other cardiologists, which he should), Dr. Shaqra became very upset when I informed him that I would go to Overlook Medical Center to complete the stress test (since they were able to see me much quicker), instead of St. Mary’s Hospital, where he kept insisting I go to complete this test (I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets kickbacks whenever his patients go to his “preferred” testing locations).… After receiving the stress test results, the report had some information that was unclear and required further clarification. Although I received the report the same day I completed the stress test, it took Dr. Shaqra two whole days to call me back with any updates. Dr. Shaqra’s staff called me back very late at night two days later, made me wait on hold for 20 minutes before Dr. Shaqra finally came on the phone, then Dr. Shaqra immediately said he could not clear me with the stress test report from Overlook, completely refused to follow up with the other cardiologist who signed off on the report to obtain the needed clarification (as Overlook had advised Dr. Shaqra do when I completed the stress test), then, Dr. Shaqra unexpectedly became irate, yelled at me, said he didn’t want to treat me anymore, hung up the phone, and after desperately calling him back, he randomly advised me I needed to complete a nuclear stress test before he could clear me for surgery. I knew this additional test wasn’t needed (given the initial stress test was normal), so I ended up declining to do this test, went to a different cardiologist, and on very short notice, this cardiologist, who I had fortunately seen one time in 2016, completed another stress test in his office (at my request/expense to avoid any further delays) and cleared me right away after this new stress test conducted at his office was normal (the same as the first one at Overlook by the way) and after obtaining the echocardiogram results from Dr. Shaqra’s office. Ultimately, all Dr. Shaqra had to do was call Overlook and get the “tracings” from the initial stress test, and all of this situation could’ve been avoided. After being a patient of Dr. Shaqra since 2017, previously having good experiences in general, and even referring my wife to him, I feel completely betrayed by his actions and highly recommend you stay away from this place, unless you are okay being disrespected, treated in a very rude and callous fashion, and being yelled at for no reason, and having to follow up numerous times for a simple cardiac clearance. Final Thoughts: Don’t be afraid to be proactive and challenge any kind of behaviors/actions from a doctor that do not put your best interests in mind or appear to put profits over patient-centered care.

I met Dr Shaqra during an emergency situation. Dr Shaqra has saved my life, He was finished with his work for the day and on his way out the door,when he saw my EKG he dropped everything and suited up for OR, I was having a heart attack, he performed so well to help me I was in bad shape I'm alive today because of him, I feel great and so much better this doctor has healing hands he comunicates with you very well and explains what he did and why, he is know and forever my heart Dr. and I thank him for saving my life, thankyou again Dr. Shaqra

Dr. Hussein is very knowledgeable, caring, and concerned. In his office they also respond efficiently to my phone calls. When the days are not busy it goes much smoother and faster in the waiting room. It is easy to schedule an appointment with him. Him and his staff are friendly and professional. He has helped and improved my health for a couple of years now. I would not change him anytime soon. He has not given up my health, even when I was struggling. I would recommend Dr. Hussein. I really thank Dr. Hussein for excellent care and service.

Dr Shaqra is an amazing cardiologist. My father and family are forever thankful for his dedication and knowledge, we are blessed to have my father Otoniel R. In his hands. God bless him.
