Dr. Hye Sun Kim, MD

Upon every visit to Dr. Kim, all of the staff are kind, friendly, and helpful. I would recommend.

Overall an awful experience. Dr. Kim was not able to communicate medical information in detail (either a language or knowledge gap), was rushed, and her staff were incredibly rude and unprofessional. Most importantly, Dr. Kim failed to address my family history and dietary restrictions regarding my B12 concerns, and incorrectly summarized the lab report by saying my B12 was normal, when in fact the lab report warned me that it was probably too low. The lab report saying it was too low in combination with my concerns is unacceptable. Had I listened to Dr. Kim's advice without requesting the lab report and doing my own investigation, I could have developed serious, non-treatable illnesses years from now and could have sued for malpractice. Other details: -lots of the new patient paperwork was redundant -there is only 1 waiting room--no separation for sick and well patients -Nurse was really friendly and kind but could not answer a simple medical question (how does fasting… impact blood pressure measurements?) -Doctor attempted to be personal but it was clear she did not actually care and was rushing entire appt -Doctor did not speak comprehensive English--it was definitely enough to get by, but she did not listen well and did not explain well. It is a similar experience to when you go to a doctor in a foreign country--the doctor might know what is wrong with you but the two of you communicate so basically that many details get lost -Doctor did a good job of initially asking about family history and going over specific tests I needed, keeping in mind insurance, However, the doctor had no idea which tests would be covered or not under my insurance, and pressured me to make that decision upfront so that her staff did not have to bother calling on the phone ahead of time to see which tests were covered -Doctor did answer all of my questions, but gave me very generic, non scientific answers to what could be causing my problems, despite me asking for more information--(the language barrier could have been her hesitation, or she just might not have known) -Doctor did no physical inspection of my body other than a brief stethoscope reading and lymph node feel on my throat. This was not what I expected, especially since I have not had a checkup in 5 years. I expected inspection of eyes,ears, spine, just a general examination. -blood draw caused large bruising--which can be a sign of improper technique (damage to blood vessel, not enough pressure at site) -didnt offer my the flu shot or tetanus shot even though I need one and asked about it Post visit: I later called to address insurance billing claims: -1 charge they made through insurance that should not have been charged. I called to ask what it was, why I was charged for it. Insurance corrected it and acknowledged that the office should not have billed me for that charge. -They billed insurance for my prescription, and denied that fact RUDELY on the phone--refused to listen to me and the helpful information I was providing, repeated poorly spoken English nonsense that never addressed my concerns. The only possible way the insurance was billed for the prescriotion was if they billed it. They denied this over and over on the phone, completely unprofessional.
