Dr. Ivan Guillermo Castillo Salazar, MD

Dr. Castillo-Salazar diagnosed me with optical neuritis, and when he found out I was completely blind in my left eye, he called the doctor at the ER ahead of time to make sure I wouldn’t be in the wait qroom and would start treatment immediately as time was of the essence in order for a chance of restoring vision. He also ordered a test to help determine the cause. I was on treatment within 20 minutes of getting to the ER and am already getting some of my vision back. On top of that, he came to the hospital on Saturday during his non-business hours, so completely out of his good character, to tell me that the results were not looking like his original diagnosis and looked to be more like neuromyelitis optic. He told me and my corresponding doctor that he was requesting to get me transferred to a neurologist and to do the next round of treatment earlier than expected. Again, he knew that transferring me was important and time was of the essence, and utilized his non-business hours… to get me transferred in a timely manner. It still took a few hours to get me transferred, but later that night I got a call from him to make sure I was at the new hospital under the neurologist and to check on my vision recovery during his non-business hours. My vision feels partially restored as of now, and I attribute almost all of this to him ensuring things were getting done timely. I’m blessed that i got an ophthalmologist as caring and devoted as Dr Castillo

I was diagnosed with CSCR. Dr. Castillo and his team treated me and I am now back to normal vision

I was very pleased that Dr Castillo and staff were able to intervene very effectively in my urgent retina situation. I had retina detached in my right eye with 50% field of vision gone. He surgically reattached the retina and restored my entire field of vision. He also prevented what could have been a similar situation in my left eye by doing laser procedure to repair tears and holes in the retina. All is very good now. My vision was restored and I'm very thankful.

Dr. Castillo is a caring health provider, that truly cares about his patients and will do everything humanly possible to make sure his patients don't lose sight. Procedure maybe uncomfortable or painful, but in the long run it's worth it, if it means your sight is saved.

The staff is always friendly and keeps the visit moving. Dr. Castillo is always willing to take time to answer questions and I'm very pleased with the care that I have received.

Dr. Castillo is a brilliant surgeon. He performed a very delicate procedure to repair my detached retina, a condition which could easily have caused permanent blindness. He is also kind and gentle, and a very good listener. Waco is fortunate to have a retina surgeon of his caliber. Very highly and enthusiastically recommended!
