Dr. Ivan Charles Spector, MD

Dr. Spector should be avoided completely. 1. He only pushes certain prescriptions as if he receives kickbacks from the pharmaceutical companies. He prescribed me a sleeping med that triggers cardiac arrhythmia even after telling him that I have a diagnosed heart condition. He doesn't take into consideration your medical history which means that he does not prescribe the best medicines for you. 2. He is extremely insensitive and dismissive to his patients pain. I was dealing stress on the job and he dismissed it as just part of my job and when I had a close death in the family he said when I get close to his age people start to die more often. He makes jokes about your pain and he makes everything about him. He loves to hear himself talk. 3. He becomes defensive like a paranoid individual whenever you express your concerns about your care plan/prescriptions. My Psychiatrist retired so I chose Dr. Spector as my new one. He saw on my electronic chart that I was prescribed… Valium. He immediately declined to continue my prescription saying that the DEA would be all over him if he prescribed Valium so he started to present other benzodiazepams I've taken before that didn't work. When I expressed my concern about abruptly switching my regular med for years, his attitude towards me became nasty towards me treating me like an addict in which I've never been . 4. He skips over you for his favorite patients even if you come extra early to an appointment. Several times I've had patients whose appointments were after mine go in before me despite me arriving early for my own appointment. No respect for "some" of his patients time. 5. He is rude to his secretary. He spoke to her so nasty one day that I couldn't believe what I was hearing. She is such a nice young lady and she even apologized to me for hearing him yelling at her. Now I know why no one in the office likes him. I hope she finds something else. I'm sure once Dr. Spector sees my reviews he will put a note on my medical record disparing me for telling the truth about him but I truly don't care. Due to my experience with Dr. Spector, I've decided never to go back to another psychiatrist. Yes, I still deal with depression and anxiety but I will go the natural route instead of dealing with a condescending doctor like him again. Overall, this Doctor is very unprofessional. Therefore, please do yourself a favor and avoid him

He isn’t anything more than a drug dealer with a license in my opinion. He subscribed medication that reacted with medication I was on and set me back at least 5 or 6 months. I am worse after seeing him. Find another doctor!

A close relative committed suicide while under his care a number of years ago. Dr Spector failed 'best practice' protocols with her. He should have referred her to another doctor, should have monitored medication, should have taken her suicidality seriously. Years later one of her medical supervisors said to me "i would never refer anyone to him". Be ware.

He Doesn't Take The Time To Test His Patients Because I Know of One Of His Patient that Sells his medication every month his sells his medication pills

I have seen Dr. Spector for approximately 2 years. Within that time I have found him to be extremely sensitive to me in time of crisis and diligently taken a 'hands-on'/personalized approach in my treatment. His attitude is always positive and has never reproached me for my occasional tardiness! I appreciate his sensitivity and insight. He is a problem solver. I could not have wished for a more insightful, caring and knowledgeable psychiatrist. I thoroughly recommend him.

Dr.Ivan C. Spector is an awesome doctor. He is Considerate, Friendly, and he cares about all his patients. Also his staff is outstanding job I never have any problems getting a hold of them by phone.

He won't work with patients. He demands patient come in twice a month if they want their prescription filled. He spends less than 5 minutes and does not address concerns

Your phone call never get answer, no matter how many times you call. All you get is a voice message, you can leave several messages but no return calls from the staff, who set the appointments. The last year has been very bad office ethic from the staff. To be exact, the new lady who set appointments and call backs, where did she get her training. I have been seeing Dr. Spector for 10 years and I have never had this kind of experiences. until the new girl came aboard. She always tries to validate her reasons by poor excuses. Example: your information was not in the systems, I have no phone number for you, no appoint was set for you. Uh!!!!!!!!!!!! Ten years no problems until now, to validate my appointment, I had a appointment card, how can you make excuses for that she gave the card. I will be change doctor even after ten years. This is unacceptable for me. No matter how good Dr. Spector is. I was surprise to see poor rating.

I had he pleasure of working with Ivan Spector at Intracare Med Center and earlier at Methodist. Over 23 years. I found him to be a highly intelligent, professional, ethical and caring individual. The guy goes out f his way to really understand his clients. If you pay attention you will discover negative reviews for every shrink. But, stop for a minute and think of the clientele he serves (negative, distrusting, individuals who are stuck in life due to psychiatric illness. Ivan looks past all this and still works for his clients. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking psychiatric services.
