Fyda Review My mother had the unfortunate experience of being under Dr. Fyda’s care when she was sent to St. Mary’s Hospital by Belmont Village nursing home. Because of Dr. Fyda’s ADVISORY relationship with the nursing home , she was sent to St. Marys rather than Northwestern Memorial where her other doctors were on staff. (Belmont Village told us that they were associated with Northwestern when we arrangements for her move to the nursing home.) She was admitted to the hospital by Dr. Fyda. The family was not consulted as to what hospital my mother should be taken. Under Fyda’s care for previously diagnosed dementia, she was extremely over medicated to the point where she experienced a medical emergency. She required oxygen, was catheterized, could not speak, swallow, or walk. (Prior to hospital entry she was able to do all of the foregoing) She remained bedridden throughout her stay and upon discharge almost a month later, she suffered from malnutrition, had pneumonia, and was… relegated to a wheel chair full time. During this disastrous hospital confinement, Dr. Fyda refused to return any of my phone calls as her daughter and most importantly healthcare POA. As I learned from the nursing staff who also implored Fyda to call me, he did not see my mother other than to prescribe meds and even that job was given to a resident doctor (Dr. Ryan Bergren) who also refused to return my calls regarding a medical update.). Because of COVID-19 we were unable to visit and perhaps monitor her condition. After a bit of sleuthing I was able to get Fyda’s cell phone. Even his direct line phone calls were left unanswered. When I left messages on his phone that I would call every hour on the hour and did so, he blocked my calls. He then wrote in the hospital notes that he found me threatening and transferred the case to the head of the psychiatric unit at St. Marys. (I am 66 years old, 4’10” and 105 lbs., and an attorney that knows better than to make threats!!) Dr. Fyda has no business treating patients especially the elderly with dementia. He is incompetent, has no bedside manners and really needs to be disciplined. I will be reporting him to the Illinois Office of Professional Responsibility. Avoid this doctor at all costs.

Closed practice without warning. Left without meds or refill. Impossible to contact.
