Dr. Jacquelyn Perna, DO

Really inadequate bedside manner, she seems as though she hates her patients. Also made me wait over an hour in the exam room, and barely apologized. Not a good physician to see for answers or reassurance.

I choose only to see her for a physical yearly - but every time I have seen her, she has given me the time needed although she spends more time typing on the computer than examining me. If I need her other times she has generally not been available (just last week when I called with an issue I was given an appointment with one of her colleagues in the same office.)

well I was about to call in and after googling the telephone number, I saw she only had a 2.8 rating and was like "????" MY DOCTOR? she's so normal. she's never said anything messed up or judged me for my life style and has always put my best interest first. I have a lot of complicated hormone issues and that's resulted in trouble when it came to birth control. she always listens to what I have to say and doesn't belittle me like my previous doctor did.

Poor experience overall. Orders unnecessary tests. Keeps asking the same questions over and over.

You have got to be KIDDING ME. NEVER been to such a TERRIBLE AND MAL PRACTICING DOCTOR. I have BCBS of MA and I am covered for a physical. Called in and requested ONLY a physical and a cost review verified by the doctors office at NEWTON-WELLESLEY HOSPITAL with JACQUELYN D PERNA. MADE IT VERY CLEAR I WAS IN FOR PHYSICAL ONLY before starting the procedure with her. 5 days later I had a bill for a covered physical at $525 + an IN OFFICE DOCTORS VISIT at $685 at the same date and time. INSURANCE COVERED THE PHYSICAL AS EXPECTED but what is this other strange charge? Called my insurance and they wont cover it, said it must have been a mistake because this is so anomalous and makes no sense. Called the PARTNERS billing that the office uses and they listed me off 4 codes that were billed separate from the physical, ALLERGIES, SHOULDER PAIN, SMALL LESION, and WRIST PAIN. ALL of those being previous health problems I've had in the PAST, REQUIRED to be put down on the new patient history card… to give the doctor an accurate profile for a new patient. I RECEIVED NO COUNSELING, NO PRACTICE, NO MEDICINE, NO anything related to those. MADE IT CLEAR I WAS NOT DOING ANYTHING OUTSIDE THE BOUNDS OF A PHYSICAL and she agreed. The PARTNERS billing said, no problem, just ask to speak to the doctor or the practicing manager at the hospital. I asked them to do a review and PARTNERS, CHRIS, said they were billed correctly but they had seen it in the past where previous health issues were put down on a new patient profile and billed on accident. Simply call and ask for an addendum. Left a message with the front desk women, ELIZABETH, and was told the doctor and practitioner manager Kerry would reach out to me in a few days. KERRY THEN INFORMED ME that they did a review and JACQUELYN D PERNA would not issue an addendum because she told me where to go in case I wanted a specialist for my shoulder or for my small lesion. I JACQUELYN D PERNA A WEEK PRIOR AT THE APPOINTMENT. THANK YOU BUT I DO NOT NEED THAT INFORMATION BECAUSE IT IS AVAILABLE ON BCBS website. THESE PREVIOUS HEALTH ISSUES WERE NOT THINGS SHE IDENTIFIED TO BE WRONG WITH ME, THESE WERE THINGS I FILLED OUT ON MY NEW PATIENT FORM AND TOLD I WOULD NOT NEED REFERRALS BECAUSE MY HEALTH PLAN DOES NOT REQUIRE ME TO GET A REFERRAL TO SEE A SPECIALIST. Kerry said she will be sending me over a list of the things we discussed that were out of the bounds of the standard physical and informed me that "NOTHING HOKEY IS GOING ON HERE SIR, WE DO NOT MAKE MORE MONEY FOR ADDITIONAL CODES OR BILLS TO YOUR INSURANCE" which is absolute non sense. Why on earth would I be charged for an in office visit at the same date and time as my physical which was almost $150 more than the actual appointment I requested in the first place? I WARN AND RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT GO TO JACQUELYN D PERNA OR NEWTON - WELLESLEY HOSPITAL. IT IS AN INSURANCE FRAUD AND DISHONEST PRACTICE. I HAVE NEVER FELT SO ROBBED IN MY 25 YEARS OF LIFE BY A PRACTICE. THEY ARE STILL TRYING TO CHARGE ME FOR SERVICES I DID NOT RECEIVE AND SPECIFICALLY TOLD THE DOCTOR I WOULD NOT NEED.

Horrible bedside manners!

I think she is ok but as a scientist, I prefer a doctor who knows what they are doing but Dr. Perna does not seem to know enough. I give a a B+ for looking up things when she doesn't know, rather than misguide her patients, but she looks up EVERYTHING on her computer and always seemed strapped for medical information, even when i think some things should be obvious. I have tested her on numerous occasions and lets just say, i would not want her treating my baby or something like that... I however thought she made a little effort /some effort to get to know me.

For a physician to walk into an exam room and not apologize for the hour wait is upsetting. Dr. Perna walked into the room and said "if you decide not to take care of your health then that's your perogative". When asked to discuss health issues during an annual physical appointment. She says she doesn't have the time and another appointment is needed to speak about other ailments. She lacks empathy, has no bedside manners, does not know how to break things down to non english speaking patients. I do not doubt the knowledge of Dr. Perna but I am truly disappointed with how she treats her patients. I would not recommend her to others.

Dr. Perna is easily the worst doctor I have ever been to visit. I stuck it out with her for almost a year hoping she would change, but she continued to make me wait for over an hour every visit, never listened to my issues, needs, or feelings regarding my health. She always sat at her computer and typed. Never EVER made eye contact or showed concern even when I would be crying talking to her. I feel I was clearly misdiagnosed after gaining 20 pounds in 4 months, swollen ankles, sore joints and depression she decided to test my thyroid many months later after I demanded a TSH test to check my levels. She is a horrible representation of a doctor. My TSH levels were never under control while under her care. She never followed up or tested my levels without me asking. I feel bad for anyone still under her care. Take my advice and leave. SHE IS NOT GOOD FOR YOU.
