Dr. Jakob Cyna Melamed, MD

My husband and I had gone to this doctor for something like 20 years and were very pleased with his helpful, caring approach. Now, however, the doctor's objectives have changed. Apparently, he is now taking only the insurance plan for Columbia University employees. We were unaware when we kept our appointment that not only my husband's insurance would no longer be taken but that I would need to pay cash for services covered by my healthcare plan that supposedly the doctor still takes, at least for now. Moreover, even though our annual wellness appointments had been on the books for almost two months, and the doctor's office knew we wanted our flu shots, we were NOT advised we would not be able to get them. So my husband spent $300 cash for a cursory exam and I spent $88 for essentially a requisition for a mammogram that I could have gotten by calling my gynecologist. Had I known that after the hour going and coming I was going to spend another hour at CVS to get a flu… shot, I would have cancelled the doctor's appointment. So my rating of 4 stars is a reduction from the 5-star medical help the doctor has given over the years. Surely his office could have let me know when I called that morning that (a) we wouldn't get flu shots and (b) I was going to have to pay cash even though the office would take my insurance. Very disappointing and dismissive to be so treated in our later years.....

I did not have a good expirience with doctor Jacob Melamed . On my visit he prescribed me a medication and told me to call him back to tell if it work. After a week of using the medication and realizing that it does not work for me I tried to get in touch with him asking to return my call. He never rreturn my calls. I call him the following day with the same result. I find it very unprofessional.
