Dr. James Marcellus Barry JR., MD

This person very clearly is on the autism spectrum. So? He’s also, bar none, the smartest doctor I’ve ever been to. I have been having terrible migraines for years. He helped me get them treated and referred me to other specialists who now manage my care for a genetic illness I have. His staff is pleasant. The office is really nice too. If you can handle the idea that eye contact will be minimal you won’t regret getting this doctor’s help.

I’ve spent 46 of my 49 years seeing neurologist...Dr. James Barry at Kane Hall Barry is THE WORST I’ve ever encountered. Not only is he the rudest, most arrogant, condescending, ill mannered individual Ive ever encountered....he’s practicing POOR MEDICINE! He told me I did not have epilepsy and was not having seizures...perhaps I was merely experiencing headaches. I found out a month later with a REAL doctor that I have to have brain surgery to control my temporal lobe epilepsy! His staff is also rude and unavailable. It’s despicable and I highly discourage ANYONE from seeking their medical assistance!!!

First off, he is very snide and unprofessional. He sighed loudly as though he was annoyed and made no eye contact. He was really a jerk. Horrible experience. This doctor does not listen to concerns and did not take a good history. He diagnosed my husband with carpal tunnel and then when questioned, changed it to some other off the wall diagnosis that didn’t make sense. This doctor charted that my husband was at his baseline when he still had no use of his hands. At BASELINE he had no neurological problems at all. Avoid him and avoid Texas health alliance because he is the neurologist on call there.

I was referred to Dr. Barry by my PCP, who sees him for Multiple Sclerosis. She told me his manner could be odd but that he was a good doctor/she trusted and "like a a lot of specialists, they're brilliant but patient reparte is not their thing". I found him to be caring and extremely thorough. He accurately diagnosed my situation (that others had misdiagnosed) and took the time to learn more about for my follow up visit (fairly rare and not within his areas of focus). He manner IS offbeat but my non-professional guess is that he has Aspergers (runs in my family so I recognized it immediately). He acts a bit like the proverbial Mad Doctor ð???. One of the traveling techs told me that he's considered one of the best Neuros in DFW and I have recommended him to others, with the caveat that he's a bit of a funny duck but a good doctor. I never felt rushed or condescended to. His assistant at the time, Crystal, was great - very kind, quick on the follow up.

Dr Barry has the worst bedside manner of any doctor I have ever seen. He looked upward, acted as though he were intoxicated or high. He made snide comments under his breath and rolled his eyes. Even said comments like" This is one helluva problem isn't it!" I've suffered 2 months with this migraine, had iV infusions, been to ER & Carenow. His attitude was unprofessional and I left his office crying. Leaving one star only b/c you have to enter something to leave a comment.

The WORSE bedside manner. Strange, unsettling demeanor. Could not maintain eye-contact - constantly looking up or down. Spoke in short condescending spurts, under his breath, and then seemed exasperated when I couldn't understand him. He barely described his diagnosis and literally told me he couldn't help me that I had to go back to the referring physician. When I stated the referring doctor adamantly told me my problem was NOT what Dr. Barry had just diagnosed, he shrugged his shoulders and told me to do whatever I wanted to. I literally had to keep prying for information, advice and direction which seemed to make this guy's behavior even more unnerving. The whole experience was disagreeable, a waste of time and money and left me an emotional wreck having not received treatment options or prognosis. He gets one star only because I cannot post a review with "no stars".

Very attentive and took his time to explain every detail. He was great to work with! I would recomend him in a heartbeat.

We had an encounter with Dr. Barry & his behavior was bizarre and very unprofessional. I couldn't get out of the room fast enough. I wouldn't recommend this man to anyone.

This has got to be the weirdest man I've ever met in my life. I spent the visit trying to decide if he was drunk, ill, or exhausted. He kept rolling his eyes about and grimacing as he spoke. Then he'd drop his head and look up at me from under his eyebrows, and rub his face. He spoke in an exaggeratedly slow, patronizing tone, like he thought I was stupid or senile. He was dismissive, unhelpful and just plain creepy. Why would anyone ever go to this man for medical advice?I'm never setting foot in his office again.

I found Dr. Barry to be very dismissive of everything I had to say when addressing my symptoms. He prescribed medication that did not work and became atagonistic after I reported that I had stopped taking it due to side effects. After 4 increasingly caustic exams and followups with this man (and no improvment to my health)I received this comment: "I can't help you. There's nothing I can do." But...he then told his staff to set me up for another appointment 6 months out. I immediately sought a second opinion. When I obtained copies of his reports for my new doctor, they were full of out-right lies that painted him to be a saint and made me look like a drud-addled psychopath. I am considering writing a complaint to the Texas Medical Board. Stay away from this loser.
