Dr. James Richard Berenson, MD

I have been seeing Dr. Berenson for over 12 years now. I travel 2 1/2 hours from San Bernardino to his clinic every 2 weeks. His expertise in Myeloma is 2nd to none and is nationally recognized for having the highest survival rates in this disease. He runs a single oncology practice with over 600 active patients which makes it challenging to provide absolute attention to any one person. I've adapted to the office chaos and am grateful that he has provided me with a good quality of life and the ability to still work full time.

Dr. Berenson has expertise in the area of multiple myeloma. This benefit is outweighed by his lack of professionalism, arrogance, lack of preparedness during medical visits, rushing through visit, acting as if his time is the only person's time who is important. He has many capable and pleasant people who work for him. However, it has not been uncommon for me to have to wait 1.5 - 2 hours waiting to be seen, after traveling several hours for the appointment. My family describes him as the doctor who never takes his hand off the door knob when he enters the room, as if he is anxious to leave as soon as possible. While I respect his medical knowledge, his incredible arrogance, lack of listening, lack of apparent compassion for me as a patient has influenced my decision to no longer see him.

I am a physian too and specialist in Hematology and Multiple Myeloma, But Dr James Berenson whom I met at his office in Los Angeles two years ago with my brother not only he is an excellent physician , his advances researches on multiple myeloma will hopefully find the cause of the disease and a cure with less toxic medications.

I have been going to Dr Berenson for almost 2 years and love it. I drive 124 miles one way every two weeks for him to treat me

He has the most amazing people skills of any doctor I have met. He gives his cell phone # to his patients so they can call him directly with a problem. His diagnostic skills are superb. He is an amazing researcher. What else could you want in a physician? My husband, who has multiple myeloma, would never had gone into remission without the care of Dr. Berenson. We owe his life to this wonderful doctor.
