Dr. James C. Van Doren

Dr. Van Doren combines medication management with psychotherapy in a holistic, patient-centered approach. He recognizes that each individual brings a unique life story and set of experiences to treatment, and he works to understand those perspectives fully. His goal is to relieve psychological distress and support patients in achieving their highest possible quality of life. He treats a broad range of psychiatric conditions, including mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders and panic, psychotic disorders (schizophrenia), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), substance use disorders, personality disorders, and eating disorders.

He is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Van Doren graduated summa cum laude from Fort Hays State University in 1994 and earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1999. He …completed his psychiatric residency at the University of Arizona Department of Psychiatry in 2003.

Throughout his career, he has provided care in a range of settings, including community clinics, chemical dependency programs, inpatient hospitals, and private practice. Dr. Van Doren practiced in Tucson, AZ (2003–2010) and Hays, KS (2010–2012), and has practiced in Minneapolis, MN since 2013. He has also served as an associate professor of psychiatry at both the University of Arizona and the University of Minnesota.
