Dr. James Peter Cho, MD

I have found Dr Cho to be an empathetic practitioner who is also "up to date" on the latest treatments for depression.

this doctor should not take care of truly ill patients , simply when the sick patient needs help and the circumstances become complex and they need the care he drops them as if they where dealing with a common malady he is only in for the money ... go to him at your own risk .

I described Dr. Cho to my wife as a “space cadet.” He’s prone to bizarre tangents about his political opinions, his opinions of other doctors, his thoughts about other *patients* (granted, in a completely anonymous way), his opinions about himself, or his kid’s teachers... it’s just bizarre. I don’t think I like him much personally. But... having seen a fair share of pill-pushing psychiatrists who kept adding pills on top of pills that weren’t working until I was practically comatose, I appreciate Dr. Cho’s conservative and knowledgeable approach to medication. He knows that I have had bad experiences with certain types of medication in the past, and therefore steers away from them. If we discuss a new medication, he rattles off the negative side effects to help me be aware of whether it’d be worth it to me. He’s very cautious about prescribing Xanax and similar drugs due to their addictive nature. He’s open to non-traditional uses of medications with fewer side effects. All… of this I respect, and it helps me get over some personality issues that rub me the wrong way.

I’ve seen him for years and I’ve seen other doctors. Several doctors spend only a few minutes with a patient. He spends about 30 for a regular session. When I call his office I get a response almost always the same day and if I don’t it’s not his fault cause I notice he tried to call me at least a few times. I’ve read several of the reviews here and of those who don’t like him I’ve never had that experience.

My experience with Dr. Cho was traumatizing. I’ve truly never talked to someone so mean as him, and l told him that. I would do anything I could to get him fired. He is not meant to work with people- especially those in a mental crisis.

Dr. Cho has been my psychiatrist for over two years and has proven himself to be a remarkable provider. In my thirty years of treatment for my condition I have never known a finer psychiatrist. Dr. Cho looks at the whole picture of your life and takes the time to address all your needs. He recommends proven methods to improve the quality of your life. Additionally, he is very supportive and caring. I really feel that he has been a strong reason that I am functioning at the best level I have ever experienced in my life. He is also honest with you with a compassionate heart. I can't recommend this doctor enough. He is without question a superior psychiatrist.

My daughter had a condition that needed his expertise in psychiatry and neurology. He was compassionate yet he has wisdom in dealing with patients. I highly recommend him.

My psychiatrist of many years retired. I doubted I would find another psychiatrist I could rely on and trust as much. Fortunately I found Dr. Cho soon after he opened his office in Clayton. He’s very busy now and I’m not surprised. Dr. Cho is an excellent Physician. I have found him to be extremely professional , compassionate and very knowledgeable in his field. I’ve recommended Dr. Cho to many friends who have also been pleased. I can recommend Dr. Cho without hesitation.

I’ve been seeing Dr Cho for almost 2 years. I’m also a physician, and I’ve stuck with him for good reason. Psych problems aren’t easy to treat. He’s worked with me in a systematic way. My problems aren’t resolved but I’m confident they will be a smaller and smaller part of my life the longer I work with him. He is factual and to the point. That works for me but might seem too blunt for other patients. With that said, I’m sure he adjusts his approach based on his patient. I’ll also add that in the past 10 years of religously following with a mental health provider... he has me more on track than anyone else I’ve worked with.
