Dr DeHaven done my knee surgery and I am thankful for him..A great surgeon and very kind man.

This Dr. Dehaven is arrogant, ignorant and rude. Insisted MRI’s were inaccurate no need to look at the one I brought. I was Referred because of this MRI for surgery. After a year of therapy and cortisone shots. I asked for my medical records. I found in his notes that he thought I had Alternative motives. Found a Dr. of sports injuries at Physicians Medical in Naples that repaired a 70 percent tear and removed large amounts of scar tissue from my torn rotator cuff. This Dr. said that this Dehaven most likely didn’t have the stills to make the repairs. So thank you Dehaven for not cutting on me. By the way there are nine doctors in my family one being my son.

He is very nice and very good surgeon, he did mine and my husbands hips and was very caring and has a good bed side maner

He was arrogant, rude, and at one point he just outright insulted me. He seems to have no compassion for his patients and no respect for your religious beliefs if they differ from his.

This is in regards to Dr James DeHaven at Houston Orthopedics P.C. My visit with him was unsatisfactory, unprofessional, inconsiderate, hurry up and get me out kind of attitude. He was very rude and unconcerned about any of my issues that are reference on the MRI and supporting reports. He completely disregarded the issues associated with my lower spine and told me that I would just have to deal with it. The only medical option or explanation offered was to receive an epidural to my upper spine. I was also informed that he was not a spine surgeon, but was qualified to look at the spine but would have to refer me to someone who could perform the actual surgery should I need it. Dr DeHaven, greeted me in the room and sat down to discuss what the consult was for, he listened, asked questions and then performed a physical evaluation while I sat in the chair. He conducted all of the usual checks of moving my head to the side, looking up, pushing, pulling etc. He moved my legs and checked… the mobility of my joints. After this was completed, he looked at me and stated he would go look at my MRI and form his opinion of what he felt was wrong. Shortly after, he returned to the room and stated that what he found was not that bad, and noted the herniation in my C spine and my T spine and then said to me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my lower back (L spine) and that none of it would require surgery. (Which is great if itâ??s correct). He then told me that he didnâ??t know why I would be referred to an orthopedic surgeon. Shocked and confused at his answers, I asked him what he meant by nothing and he said in a very rude and condescending tone that I had nothing wrong with my lower spine. Puzzled by his remark I asked about the tear (documented on my report) and he paused for a moment and said its nothing to worry about and started to say â??it would causeâ??, and then abruptly cut that short and then said there is nothing wrong with it, I was so shocked and thrown off by his lack of concern and explanation of what would be causing the intense pain I suffer from in my leg everyday, (Standing, sitting or lying down) I just looked at him with a look of disbelief. That is when he asked me if I wanted and epidural (why is he asking me? Heâ??s the doctor) for my upper back, I nodded yes and he said â??ok fineâ??, Iâ??ll order that for you and then he got up and left the room without another word, or further discussion or explanation of what was causing the pain in my leg. I couldnâ??t believe how I was being treated or what I was hearing and felt like I was a waste of his time and not even old enough to be sitting in his office. When he left the room he left the door open and I sat there for maybe 8 minutes. I went to the door and was standing there when he walked by; he looked at me and just kept walking. I could not understand why he didnâ??t have anymore discussion with me about what I was feeling and dealing with and why he would have the nerve to make me feel like I did not have legitimate pains and that not only was my upper spine very painful, but so was my lower spine. So, I followed him and asked him if there was anything further for me to do and he states in a very irritated and inconsiderate demeanor that my nurse should be working on that and you need to go back to the room and wait. Frustrated by his rude attitude and total disregard to my issues with my L spine, I stated to him that I did have some questions about my leg pain and back pain. He was annoyed and started walking back with me to the room as I was asking him what I could do about the pain in my leg and back and he looks at me and says your just going to have to deal with it. I said I was glad I didnâ??t need surgery, but was concerned about the issues with my lower back. Again he demonstrated no concern or need to give me any explanation or follow through. He states again Iâ??ll have to live with it. Frustrated, I make a comment that its just me getting old/older and he says so what can you do. The whole time he was talking with me in the hall, he acted like I was wasting his time and he wanted nothing more to do with me. I left there feeling deflated and completely disrespected by Dr DeHaven. He did not demonstrate any respect, or concern to my problems as a patient, he made me feel like I was a waste of his time and always seemed like he had somewhere else to be. I was wasting his time. What about my time? Does he really think I have all the time in the world to go to a surgeon to resolve my pain issues to only be rushed through and disrespected by him? Itâ??s his job to provide a professional, friendly and educated diagnosis that will result in helping the patient to find a way to be pain free and return to some sort of quality of life. I am sure he has patients that have more serious issues that require immediate attention, I am sure he has a very hectic and busy schedule and will give him some slack for those reasons, but that does not mean that my pain is not real and that my quality of life is not subpar and it does not mean I am making up any of my issues just to be a waste of his time or mine. I have been dealing with these back issues for the past 20 years on my upper and middle spine and for the lower spine 25 years, both are from injuries and they are not in my head or falsely stated. My MRI supports what I have been complaining about. I have dealt with this pain by taking naproxen and Advil over the years as it has helped to relieve the pain minus severe debilitating flare-ups, along with rest and careful and cautious movements in the use of my back. It has been in the last three years that my upper spine has not been controlled by the naproxen and Advil and has had to be treated with stronger medications. I have had three epidurals in 2010 and moved here in 2011. I started to have pain come back

He not to be trusted. He doesn't have your best interest at heart and will make it seem like you are not trying to do what is required of you.

I was referred to this Dr. through Tricare Prime. Should have known better. He immediately wanted to perform surgery for a bunion that was acting up off and on. When the recovery turned out to be much worse than I was told he put in his notes that I obviously didn't realize what I had gotten into and that it wasn't all that bad after all. He pretty much put his hand on the door knob after 3 minutes to signal that the appt was over.... I even took my husband with me once to make sure I wasn't imagining how rude, condescending and arrogant he was. PLEASE do not subject yourself to his "care"!

Dr. DeHaven's treatment and rehabilitation therapy of my broken bones went beyond the abilities of other surgeons. I know this because so many people from the hospital said they had never seen a doctor take the effort to save my severely injured legs and back. One team member said he told Dr. DeHaven my leg was beyond saving and he had already prepared my leg for amputation. But then, Dr. DeHaven said he was going to do everything he could to save it.He is direct with his patients because he expects them to be actively involved in their own recovery and treatment. I saw patients who did not follow his advice that caused complications and setbacks.I can't say enough about this doctor.As further proof, I have had chance exchanges with people, one in Arizona and one in Alaska who were talking highly of their orthopedic surgeon. Both spoke with admiration for their "Bone Doc" to realize they were his patients, too.

Sounds like there are others that has seen the INCOPITENCE of this in it for the money Gentleman. I Was sent to this Dr. after getting an MRI for a torn rotator cuff for repair. He examined me and said that it wasn't torn. Also MRIs are not accurate he didn't want to look at the MRI. I'll give you a shot and you will be good as new with therapy. To make a long story short after all the shots and a YEAR PASSED and insurance wasted on his purse. I opted to go to another Dr. a real specialist in Naples Florida. That said I had over a fifty percent tear with enormous amounts of scaring. I arm is great now after the surgery that was needed. Could have been spared a lot of pain, suffering, and money if I had never heard of this Gentleman Dehaven. My &2,500 deductible was doubled of course. I asked for My records in them He had been saying that I must have had some alliterative motive. What a punk.
