Dr. James A Duerkes, DO

Dr. Duerkes is incredibly knowledgeable and compassionate. He took the time to answer all of my questions without rushing and address my concerns. He was very gentle and kind, making the whole experience positive, I felt very comfortable during the visit. I feel so lucky that he is my doctor. I highly recommend him!

As a first-time mom I had so many concerns when choosing which doctor would be right for my baby and me. But, from my very first prenatal appointment, I knew that Dr. James Deurkes wouldn’t let me down. He was very patient with me and extremely detailed when answering my questions. Throughout my pregnancy, I was able to reach out to him at anytime of the day and expect a quick response from him and his team. As my due date came near, I began to research more about labor and delivery and became more anxious about having the perfect birth plan. I was very set on a natural, vaginal delivery, delaying of the umbilical cord cutting, anti-episiotomy, skin to skin, amongst many other things and Dr. Deurkes was all for it. He supported my husband and I’s wishes until the very end. At 37 weeks pregnant I had my ultrasound, where we discovered that my baby was breach and due to preeclampsia I would have to deliver that same week. This news was most devastating because of my strong desire to… deliver vaginally. I had read and watched videos throughout the last trimester on how to flip a breech baby but Dr. Deurkes explained very thoroughly all of the risks that could go along with flipping a breech baby and I slowly began to change my mind on the idea of it being that I would be putting my baby and myself in danger. I knew that I had to start accepting the possibility of C-section but was very uneasy about it. On my way to the hospital, Dr. Duerkes called me To go over what was next. I slowly began to break down into tears and asked him if there was any hope whatsoever for a vaginal delivery. He assured me that he was going to try what he could without putting us in danger. When I arrived to the hospital, Dr. Deurkes began to make small maneuvers in attempt to slowly turn the baby. It was then that one of the nurses suggested performing a version, which is when a sonogram tech guides the Doctor with the positioning of the baby as he attempts to flip the baby. My doctor was confident that this could work and I had 100% faith in him. It took him less than five minutes to successfully accomplish the version and I was able to deliver vaginally. He also granted all of my wishes in the delivery room that went according to the birth plan. I am so grateful that I chose Dr. Deurkes for this journey and if I had to do it all over again I would choose him every time. Finally!!!.....a doctor that is patient, knowledgable, and truly cares!!! He was all around what I personally need in a doctor. I'll definitely be sticking with him

Dr Duerkes was always so kind and patient throughout our pregnancy. He took every opportunity to explain the "why's", which made us confident in the decisions he made during our labor. I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful, natural, vaginal delivery!!! We love Dr Duerkes!!
