Dr. James Barry Gallai, MD

I was reffered by another physcian for an abnormal chest xray. Dr. Gallai spent a great deal of time and effort getting a complete history rather then just looking at the xray and telling me what he thought.He did a complete exam and then we looked at the xray together,explaing as we went along. He showed me what everyone was concerned about ,explained what his approach was ,asked if I had any questions and I am happy to say everything turned out OKAY.

I had a cough for 3 years and had seen 4 doctors to no availl. The cough was keeping me up at nite . Many of the doctors I saw didn't pay much attention and told me it was normal.Dr. Gallai took an extremly complete history ,spent about 45 minutes,went over my tests in detail and did not order any more tests.He explained the most likely diagnosis.,suggested treatments which I took plus some enviromental changes and low and behold no more cough in about a week.

I saw Dr. Gallai in Morris, Il and I was very pleased with the whole experience. He really listened to me and asked many questions to get all my past medical history. He was genuinely concerned about my problem and explained very clearly what medicine he was prescribing for me and what to expect. I will definitely be following up with him.

I had been to many specialists for an extremely troubling cough to no avial. A friend had suggested Dr. Gallai,even though itwas 45 miles I was desperate. He did the most thorough history and exam I ever had. . He went over the reams of expensive tests . He gave me his diagnosis . Suggested a very simple treatment and low and behold no more cough.

I had gone to 3 other pulmonoligists for my problem to no avail and it this point I was not very optimistic. I was reassured by the other patients comments in the waiting room as well as how pleased the patients who just left his office. They uniformaly said I was fortunate to see him ,that he would solve my problem and that he would make me feel better and more hopeful.He was abit older then I expected,but took the most thorough history that any physcian had.His exam was thorough.We went over my records,he mentioned that he likes to get his own history first because often previous records are inconsistent with what he concludes himself. We did find a few inconsitensies that did indeed make no sense. He discussed with me his diagnosis other less likely diagnosis,further investigations (none after spending thousands of dollars)and planned treatmnt.,risks(a few )benefits(a lot)and what did I want to do .He answered all my questions. Wrote the precriptions ,explained the medications… action ,significant side effects( and not to be too worried with what the pharmacy handed out).He suggested some important though somewhat un pleaseant life style changes. He made a follow up appointmnet in two weeks and at this point stated that for a while I might have to see him often as my problem had gone on for a long time and was sure I was very very uncomfortable and drained by it,which I was . 5 visits later I happy to say I was a new women . Each visit he did make a few adjustments.Since then I have reffered 3 friends and relatives two with asthma,one with unfortunetly lung cancer and they got the same impression. They all had to wait up to 35 minutes,but they said he was worth the wait.

This doctor is rude and does not listen. He interrupts and does not let you finish explaining your symptoms. I waited for over 2 hours to see this guy. He did not even read my medical records that I brought in.
