Dr. James Joseph Garner, MD

I cannot give enough accolades to this doctor!!!! We were in Florida on a family vacation when my husband suddenly was hit with severe pain, which we originally thought was kidney stones. We ended up in the ER on a Friday night and Dr. Garner was on call and came in especially for my husband and performed a scope via catheter. His bedside manner is phenomenal and top-notch. He is concerned, caring and calming. Unfortunately our vacation Vacation was cut short by three days and my husband had to travel with a catheter and bag but I couldn’t have felt any more confident in the care that he was receiving while at Holy Cross hospital with Dr. Garner. Dr. Garner, I really hope that you read these reviews because I cannot thank you enough. And thank you for taking my cell phone number and calling us the next day to check on my husband.

Maybe an old school approach, no computers, but does a very thorough annual prostate exam taking very complete notes, seems very knowledgeable, very business like approach. Never had to diagnose or followup thanks to my good health to date.

I was most fortunate to have had him on call at Holly Cross Hospital. Dr. Garner shows true concern and empathy towards his patients. He takes the time needed to explain anything you may question along with a bed side manner that is outstanding. Dr. Garner makes you feel like your his "only" patient with the attention and genuine concern he shows. What a wonderful man.

Dr. G is a through-back to another era with regard to why and how he practices-not just for the money and more thorough than any other Dr. I can recall. If he has the way too often experienced medical ego a/k/a the God complex I havenâ??t seen it though I am sure when I have a serious issue and he does his best to resolve it I will think he is God. I have always had prostate issues more recently to the point that it is causing some degree of urination problems. On my first visit he took four pages of handwritten notes. While it certainly wasnâ??t the most comfortable rectal exam I have ever had it was without question the most thorough-no pain, just serious probing which would seem to be necessary to get substantive information. From the information provided and obtained he recommended FloMax and other than a panel of typical lab tests including PSA no additional tests. [My previous urologist literally said â??Hello, follow this lady to the next room and she will do a sonogram… of your bladerâ?? after you provide a urine sample.] He is not enrolled with my insurer so I gladly pay him directly for my annual exams and hope one day, before I have a serious issue, he adds my insurer to his practice. To quote from another patient review â??If you ever need medical assistance of any kind, this is the kind of Doctor that you pray for. Dr. Garner is bright, knowledgeable, caring and an expert in his field of urology.â?? I could not have said it better so I am not even going to try. Thanks Doc. See you and Lisa next year.

Dr. Garner is just what I was looking for in a urologist: he is knowledgeable, personable, highly professional, very approachable and he knows his stuff. He takes the time to listen to my questions and concerns, and he provides good answers in terms that I can early comprehend. I've been using him for two years, following successful proton radiation treatment for low-risk prostate cancer, and he's perfect for my needs. He is respectful of my time, is well prepared for every appointment, asks good questions, and gets right to the heart of the matter. Even his digital rectal examinations of my prostate seem somehow easier than those I've had from other doctors. When he gets lab reports back, he often telephones me himself rather than having an assistant do it. I wish every doctor in my life were as good as Dr. G!
