Dr. James Richard Gaul JR., MD

He misdiagnosed me with acid-reflux rather than a chest infection requiring antibiotics. After four weeks of a terrible chest-cough and no success with standard allergy medicines that other doctors had recommended even though I explained to them (and then to Dr. Gaul) that my cough had begun before feeling congested from allergies. I have allergies often and am quite familiar with post-nasal drip. This was different. So, I went to see Dr. Gaul. I was in his office for a looong visit - most of which time was spent with him trying to numb my nose enough to conduct a procedure of looking down my nose and nasal canal with a sort of camera on a wire. He gave me drops and left the room without warning me that I would feel like I was chocking because my throat and ability to swallow would numb as well. It was terrifying! For whatever reason, he never took a sample of my phlegm to test for infection, and instead, he pronounced that it was likely I had acid reflux (with NO other symptoms… relating to acid reflux) and suggested I take both acid reflux meds AND a small dose of the narcotic pain medicine, Tramadol to reduce the cough! (Is he making money for the drug companies?) I had no desire to take such a strong and potentially dangerous drug for this cough without knowing why I was coughing. And refused. I went back to my regular doctor, she prescribed an antibiotic, and the cough is finally disappearing!

I've been seeing Dr. Gaul for a few months, and I feel I can now write a comprehensive review of the care I have received. While everyone in the office certainly seems friendly enough, I must admit that I was more than disappointed with my last visit with Dr. Gaul. Sure, the man is knowledgeable in anatomy and physiology, but it's his emotional intelligence which concerns me most. I stated my concerns about my conditions and medications, but he appeared rather disinterested and unempathetic. He then proceeded to walk out of the examination room before I could finish asking all of my questions. I left feeling let down with the care that I received. It's not enough for providers to just be smart; rather, physicians need to be more mindful of the emotional and psychological factors that their patients experience. Dr. Gaul is no exception, and I hope that he learns to slow down and put patients at ease about their concerns. After today, I felt that he's more concerned with a pompous… display of knowledge rather than providing holistic care.

Dr Gaul is a wonderful Dr. However, his office staff are not very competent in their jobs and this in turn causes a delay in care.

Receptionist embarrassed me in front of waiting room by announcing that my insurance was not accepted. It had been accepted for over 5 years but now...I had to pay out of pocket to get through the door. The Doctors are nice enough but one is rushed in and rushed out after waiting a long time. Diagnosis??

Dr. Gaul is a very kind and concerned doctor. He is very thorough and all about his patient's well being. A gentleman, very professional, and a "leave no stone unturned" kind of doctor represent a few of his excellent qualities.

I have been seeing Dr. Gaul since he opened his practice and am totally impressed with everything about him and his staff.
