Dr. James Michael Herrold, MD

I first went to see Dr. Herrold about three years ago. It was a good appointment and I liked him. He told me to let him know if I needed to see him again. I didn’t until recently. I called and made an appointment to see him. Now I have difficulty remembering appointments, so I asked, as is my habit, the receptionist if they could send me a reminder a day or two before the appointment. She said that was no problem, they did that anyway. It was in the system. I got a reminder several days before the appointment and I responded and confirmed the appointment. I did not get another reminder and, sure enough, I forgot the appointment. I called and said I needed to reschedule. I was reminded that they had a fee of $75 for missed appointments. I reminded her that I had asked for an appointment reminder a day or two before and I hadn’t got one. She said it was my responsibility to remember. She said reminders went out five days before an appointment and two days before the… appointment, but since I confirmed with the five day reminder, the two day one didn’t get sent. Now, yes, I am responsible for making my appointments. This is why I ask for the reminder a day or two in advance. I did take responsibility in that I asked for a reminder. They did not have to agree to that, but they did, and they were not responsible in keeping to that agreement. They insisted I pay. Now it always bothers me when businesses expect their patients/customers to adhere to their side of agreements, but seem to think they are not held to the same standard. I did offer a compromise: would they accept a payment of half the fee? After talking to the doctor, she said I should find another doctor, that Dr. Herrold was not willing to see me. I asked if he could call me, and was told that he was too busy to talk to patients on the phone. I cannot recommend a doctor who treats his patients in this way.

I have chronic migraines that can last 3 to 4 days. I was referred to Dr Herrold by a surgeon down the hall from him. As a migraine was coming on, I managed to call and cancel my appointment. 4 days later I called and was told that Dr Herrold won't even see me because I missed my appointment. I called several times and explained and was treated like I am not good enough to see him. I was promised a call back. Never got one. I left one last message for a phone call and now am going to a different neurologist. I never received a call back at all!

Very good neurologist. Straight forward and personable.

He was dismissive and ignored prior neurologists' recommendations to re-image and follow condition annually.
