James Edward Howell, PhD

James Howell, PHD, is a psychologist at Intermountain Health's Alta View Clinic in Sandy, Utah, and Southridge Clinic in Riverton, Utah. He has worked in the mental health field since 2012 and enjoys partnering with children, adolescents, and their families. He provides psychotherapy and conducts psychological evaluations, drawing on experience across a variety of settings — university counseling centers, public schools, and community mental health centers.

Dr. Howell has also taught graduate-level psychology courses and conducted clinical research at the University of Pennsylvania and Florida State University. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Utah Psychological Association.

When he's not working, Dr. Howell enjoys spending time with his family and getting out into the mountains.

He works within …the medical setting to provide mental health therapy and consultation alongside your established primary care provider or specialist. MHI treatment is a short-term approach to help manage mental health symptoms that impact quality of life. During treatment, the clinic team communicates with each other to make sure you and your family are getting the care they need. If additional support is needed at the end of treatment with this provider, we will assist with a referral to a long-term mental health provider.
