Dr. James William Jacobs, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Jacobs for over 20 years, beginning before he joined MDVIP and then continuing after that move. Dr. Jacobs is a very caring and capable physician. He provides thorough and professional care while demonstrating genuine concern for and knowledge of his patients. Dr. Jacobs is well-versed in current and evolving medical practices and has helped me prevent disease progression through lifestyle changes. Recently, while becoming ill while abroad he spoke with me directly both times I called after hours-well-beyond my expectations for care. I highly recommend him.

I moved over to MDVIP with Dr. Jacobs and was one of those folks that rarely went to the doctor- but I felt like I trusted him more than any other doc, and since moving have had 2 occasions to see him and both times he saw me next day, and treated the symptoms right away. And, as is his practice, he spent time talking thru the issues, asking lots of good questions. He's a fabulous doc- worth the MDVIP fee. I especially need the ability to get in quick- a lot of times that makes the difference in outcomes- fast treatment means less downtime and illness.

I have been seeing Dr. Jacobs for the past 3 years and have been pretty happy with him. Unfortunately he has recently notified his patients that he is leaving Cary Medical Group to start an MDVIP practice where he will be charging patients $1,500 a year for the mere privilege of being his patient. This is over and above the normal charges for office visits, etc. He says he is limiting his practice to "only" 600 patients, first come first serve, which if my math serves me amounts to a cool $900K/year over and above the income he earns for actually treating patients. If you can afford to plunk down that kind of cash for yourself and each member of your family just to get access to Dr. Jacobs then congratulations. But as for me and the rest of us mere mortals, I'll pass. Dr. Jacobs is good but he's not that good.As far as the other stuff (what I would have written BEFORE I learned about his impending move) - Dr. Jacobs spent a lot of time with me each visit. He seemed to have reviewed my… chart before each visit and was familiar with my personal issues and situation. His treatments and recommendations (what few they were) seemed appropriate. However, not all of the people he referred me to were that good, and the endoscopy center which is part of his (old) practice was absolutely horrible in terms of keeping appointments (I had to wait 4+ hours) and the way they treat their patients - they refused to let my wife and I discuss the anesthesia I was going to receive when we arrived at their facility.
