Dr. James Norman Jacobson, MD

One of our family members made a mistake and accidentally overdosed. After getting medically stable, Jacobson came in the room spent maybe 30 seconds with our family member and made the decision that they met all 3 criteria for the baker act which led to a series of emotional stresses for our entire family. Because of this doctors incompetent decision our family member was stuck in limbo for over 4 days without getting the care they needed. After speaking with a competent psychiatrist, it was determined that our family member never did meet the baker act criteria. So again because of this doctors lack of caring we spent 4 days in limbo. Would never recommend this person for any patient care.

He not only lied to me but discriminated me. All greed and a total lack of manners. Worst Dr I had. Didn't even read my file

I have been seeing Dr. J for a number of years. I consider myself a "status quo" patient. He is a very good listener to me as his patient and he manages my medicine in a way that I have very little fluctuation and therefore feel extremely stable. I would highly recommend Dr. Jacobson if you are looking for a compassionate doc who seems to have a very good grasp on medicine and the prescriptions that work for an individual.

Dr. Jacobson is the most knowledgeable psychiatrist I have ever dealt with. He can be blunt at times, but he deeply cares about his patients. He will help you with whatever type of psychological problems you may be dealing with. Just be patient with him. It took me a while to appreciate his skills as a psychiatrist.

Sorry if this review is too long, but I'd like to give my insights. Hope this review helps you make an informed decision. I moved to Florida in 2014. He was the first psychiatrist I saw because he was highly recommended. I liked him at first. Seemed like a quiet, non-threatening guy. He continued my medications that my previous psychiatrist has been prescribing. About a year after seeing him for med refills I got drunk one night and got physical with my father. I went to see Jacobson a few days later after a talk with my father. The guy Baker Acted me and told the police what happened (I spent 12 days in the hospital and a day and half in jail.) He switched all my medications including the most important, which was an anxiety medication that he says caused the outburst with my dad. Well, that really wasn't the cause. They did some blood work and found that I was extremely hyperthyroid at the time and that was what caused the sudden outburst of anger. I've been working with… him, reluctantly, since then and I haven't been the same since. He know his stuff, but he is borderline arrogant. He says really weird things sometimes. He is a control freak and if you have really bad anxiety, like I do, good luck getting benzodiazepines from him. He likes to prescribe SSRIs for anxiety, which do not work for me. I will be looking for another psychiatrist soon.

I do not believe this man knows his practice.messes up medication too much but blames the pharmacy when its not.in a current patient desperately looking for another docyor

as i speak this dr. has patient in hosp. for 48 hrs !!still has not called his wife back after suicide attempt!!!Do not use him !!

I moved to Florida over 11 years ago and was lucky enough to have been referred to Dr. Jacobson. He came highly recommended and I soon found out why. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field and pulls no punches, he gets straight to your issues, which is nice. I've had doctors string me along for years and never getting me any further in treatment. Dr. Jacobson is very caring and he has went beyond his duties as a doctor many times for me and my family members. I know several people who also see him and think highly of him, so it's confusing to see bad reviews. People probably just mad because he cut them off their opiates! He's a great doctor!

I would not advise any one and I mean any one to see this Doctor I was in a very bad place in my life and this doctor just about took me over the edge He informed me that I was a very bad parent and I needed to be in this place His bedside manner were just frighting This Doctor should really hang his white coat up and he should check his self in as a patient He was very mean and would say things that was not professional at all to me I now have seek care from another Doctor to get over the horrible treatment that I had to go through for those several days

This doctor allows for the best possible care I have ever had! He has helped me through all levels of my illness. I would recommend him to anyone.
