Dr. James Nicholas Kenny JR., MD

Dr. Kenny removed my kidney stone in the ER when I went in for sever lower right pain. He then put a stent in. I kept the stent in for 2 weeks. The pain of the stent is crazy.. I still worked, but complained the entire time. Sex life was non-existent. I could barely pick my son up let alone do the do with my husband. I wasn't prescribed pain medicine but when I called his office and told them I was in pain, the prescribed me something right away. Getting the stent removed was horrific pain. Once it was over though, I felt so much better. It took about 30 seconds. Dr. Kenny is fast.. he doesn't spend much time with you but if you have your questions prepared.. he will answer them. His desk nurse is kind of rude but working in the medical field myself.. I would imagine it is because they're so busy. Make your appointment ahead of time with his office because they won't/can't squeeze you in. The Nurse that assisted me in the room was very professional and comforting. She held my hand… during the removal and checked on me frequently afterwards to make sure I was alright. My appointment was at 8:45am .. I arrived around 8:20am.. they let me in and got all my paperwork done. I was out of the office by 8:50am and back to work at 9:30am. I never want to have a kidney stent again. I am definitely changing my diet in order to TRY to not get another stone.

Superior attention and care.

Im a single mother of a 3 and 5 year old girls, I was admitted to proctor hosp.with a 7mm kidney stone.Proctor hosp.appointed Dr.Kenny to me.The next morning around 6am-7am Dr.kenny came in my room (i was half awake)and he said im doing surgery today around 3pm and will be putting a stent in.I said I dont want a stent..Mainly bc my sister previously had a stent and said it was the worst couple months of her life ...and bc i knew i would be off work from it and cant afford to be off work due to being a single mother and no family to help me with my small children..he said i will not do the surgery unless you let me put a stent in..So i agreed,and he walked out.Btw ive had surgery before and previous doctors introduced themselves and atleast spent a little time with me explaining things and put me at ease before the surgery.Dr.kenny was in my room for about two min.and stood by the door.They came and got me around 11am instead of 3pm..which i understand things happen..I woke up from the… surgery in the most excruciating pain ive ever been in!!!I kept telling the nurse i had to pee..she said we dont have a restroom down here..ummm i do believe they have bed pans,urinals something?!?!She said you have to wait til you go back up to your room and in order to do that we have to get your pain under control first.After about 30-40min..and the pain not going away AT ALL!!I finally just told her o.k my pains starting to go away can i please go to my room and go pee..They took me up to my room I used the restroom..OMG worst pee of my life..I asked the nurse if i could please have something different for my pain bc wat they were giving me was not working..She left and came back and said Dr.Kenny said no were going to keep you on the same pain meds and amount.Anyway i was released from the hosp.two days later.Dr.Kenny sent me home with a script for tramadol.I took it and i puked and puked and it didnt touch the pain wat so ever!!!I called his office and he was very rude,yes i talked to him personally.He said well what do you want me to do your allergic to everything....which im not,only to codeine..So he told me I could pick up anew script but would have to wait until the next day.Great a whole night in severe pain with no meds and no sleep and had to wake up and take care of my girls the next day.He gave me a script for 10mg norcos,finally the pain went from a 10 to about a 6.When i ran out of the medicine i called his office for a re-fill they said NO RE-FILLS nor could i pick up a new script!!!! I started doing some research on stents and talked with my sister that had a stent in for two months.She told me her Dr.gave her 10mg norcos for her pain and whenever she ran out he would re fill them for her the whole time she had the stent in.Dr.Kennys office told me it shouldn't still be hurting..Huh?!?!It had only been 6 days after surgery.I also read some reviews where people said there is a medicine for the bladder spasms (which dr.kenny didnt even mention) Well,it's been over two weeks now,im still urinating blood, I only pee a couple drops every 5 min.im still having flank pain,still having bladder spasms.When i urinate at the end of my pee my kidney hurts so bad i cry everytime..and remember im peeing every 5min..My little girls come running n hug me when i pee.I would never get this procedure done again.I would rather go through 50hrs.of labor with twins then have a stent!!!! Or If i ever have to have it done again I will find out what Dr.my sister went through and get them to do it bc she said yes its horrible but atleast she had a caring compassionate doctor!!

Awesome doctor! He is a sweetheart that will tell you like it is! After my surgery he personally called to check on me, not one of the staff members whom I hadn't met before or who had no clue what was even going on. Having Dr. Kenny as my urologist has been a wonderful experience! I highly recommend him!!

Very thorough and highly intelligent. (You'd be surprised how many aren't!) He is very professional. I have a good friend who was his patient and is now being treated by an oncologist. He had nothing but the highest praise before he was turned over to the other doctor and "informed" of the reason why. If I had to be super critical of him, I do not understand why he was so obviously "uptight" when I asked him a question about my sexual disfunctioning being a concern. After all, he IS a urologist and I am of the age when those kinds of things become a real problem. He acted like I should be asking my minister or wife! Just saying! His practice is so much better than that assembly-line bunch up on N. Knoxville. No question about it.

Dr. Kenny has cared for me for the past 12 months. I became a patient of his through the Methodist ER when he was the on-call doctor to treat my kidney stone. I had another stone a couple of months ago that presented with multiple complications. Dr. Kenny was thorough, realistic, careful, and ultimately successful in my treatment/procedures. I felt like I was in good hands and appreciated his confidence yet cautiousness through this difficult period. I must also address the staff at Methodist in/out patient surgery. To me, it appeared they worked beautifully with Dr. Kenny - from the techs that picked me up in my hospital room to the nurses in recovery. The entire team made my experience much - MUCH - less frightening. In the office, Dr. Kenny's staff is wonderful. If you call in with a problem or concern, his nurse is almost always immediately available and she calls you back very promptly after consulting with Dr. Kenny. This is a rare and very remarkable quality among the… medical field.

Dr. Kenny has an excellent "bedside manner". He is empathetic, listened, understood what my concerns were and didn't waste my time or money. He wasn't one of these "it's all about me" personalities. He knew what his limitations were and that it was best to send me elsewhere. He immediately referred me with full confidence to to a specialist at UIC which was the exact thing to do. I couldn't be happier with the results. Dr. Kenny promised that his "best office person, Trina" would take care of me. She was efficient, matter of fact, caring and followed up to make sure I knew exactly what and where to go for my appointment in Chicago.
