Dr. James Arthur Maher JR., MD

I was seeing this doctor regularly for the last few years. This year I was having stomach and left side pains really bad. Every other month I would have a office visit to check my abdomen, my Sept. visit was the last! I had a hard large bump above my belly button, I asked him to feel it as I was concerned. He looked at me in disgust and basically told me I was fat, I found another doctor. Within 2 weeks I had to have surgery, this fat was a large hernia, I also found out I have gallstones. This man did not do any tests with the exception of blood work, he is very rude, inconsiderate and should think about retiring! The pain I have had to endure because this doctor would rather judge people then help them. For a GI Doctor, his office will not let you use their restroom either? GI = stomach problems = restroom at times. So glad I will never have to see your fake smile again! What a nightmare

I had been seeing this doctor over 2 years with no real progress to show for it, at my last appointment I was pretty frustrated with being told the same things that have not worked, when he sensed my frustration he told me it wasn't his fault I had this illness... nope it's not, it's just your fault I'm not getting any better from this illness under your care. His staff is wonderful and I will miss them but not the doctor. So don't waste your time with this guy

Over all the office is great. I and my spouse both have had a colonoscopy and he had an EGD as well and Dr. Maher was amazing. He answered every question help find out what my husband was suffering from for about 5 years now . and the other doctor just brushed off and refused to honestly listen. would recommend to everyone and my father has a colonoscopy set up now. the office and back staff was great. so sweet. and the office manager was very knowledgeable and very helpful . I've never know a doctors office to give personal numbers for point of contact if we have questions ..amazing is all I can say

This was by far the worst doctor office experience I ever had. It was not about doctor Maher but the office. I had a hospital procedure scheduled. I could not get hold of any one in that office, left so many messages and no one called back. I had to call the hospital to cancel the procedure and even wore an e mail and no reply. Until today no one called me to find out why I canceled?! No one. This office had immediate appointment when all other doctors had one or two months wait! That should have been a red flag! I am sure dr Maher is not aware of this otherwise he would have followed up on it. But again how could he have not since he was the one doing the procedure?!

After 2+ years in and out of the hospital, numerous tests, gallbladder surgery (probably not necessary) and countless days throwing up to the point of dehydration, my friend finally asked for Dr. Maher to review his file while at Methodist. The doctor came to see him personally, listened to the history and immediately knew what it was. Turns out his diagnosis is 100% correct and with the proper treatment, episodes can now be averted, even if never curable. Proves that nothing beats experience!

I WENT TO MY FAMILY DR . AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH HEP C AND SENT OVER TO DR. MAHER. I RECIEVED A PHONE CALL FROM THEIR OFFICE TO SCEDULE MY APPT. THEY WORKED WITH MY SCEDULE AND GOT ME IN THE SAME WEEK. THE STAFF IS VERY HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY. I HAVE BEEN SEEING THIS DR. FOR 4 MONTHS NOW. GREAT BEDSIDE MANNER. HE TOOK HIS TIME TO ANSWER ALL MY QUESTIONS ABOUT MY CONDITION AND TREATMENT AND ASSURED ME THAT IT IS CURABLE . AND HE WILL BE HERE EVERY STEP TO MAKE SURE I GET BETTER. I WOULD RECOMEND THIS DR. TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS A GI OR HEPOTOLOGIST.

The doctor and staff are very caring andwilling to do whatever it takes to helptheir patients.

I was a Patient there in the Beginning of the year, and they had a WONDERFUL nurse who would listen and was excellent at what she would do. However she is no longer there, I have changed my Gastro Doctor because the new nurse if horrible. The Doc, was great, spent time with patients and made sure that you understand what is your problem. The office staff needs to find that one nurse and get her back and maybe the doctor will do better.
