Dr. James Benjamin Martel, MD

Something is wrong here. No one seems to know what they are doing.

I have never reviewed a doctor before but my experience with Dr. Martel and this office warrants my review. Dr. Martel instilled a sense of urgency regarding my eye issues and sent me off for tests but then didn't contact me back with results for 2 weeks, even after several calls to the office for someone to call me....then back in the office again (each time waiting at least 1 to 1.5 hours) then he sent me to Sutter ER to have a Lumbar Puncture - but once I got to the triage room, the doctor immediately told me that they don't perform the test that he wanted done and to go to Radiology the next day. They couldn't understand why the dr. would send me to the ER for this test. So nothing was performed on me and I ended up with an $800 bill ($250 ER visit & 20% copay) for nothing! After all of my tests and copays he said that nothing is wrong even though I still have the same symptoms. Now I am starting over with a new doctor. I could go on with the complete inefficiency of this… office, but these are the main issues, and I caution anyone getting drawn into the web Martel Eye Medical Group.

Dr. James Martel diagnosed my eye problem and showed a strong commitment to treat the problem. I am very pleased with the doctors and staff. I recommend this clinic

i WOULD LOVE TO DELETE MY PRIOR POST. i HAD A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE IN THE OFFICE. i CALLED THE NEXT DAY AND SPOKE WITH THE OFFICE MANAGER. sHE WAS VERY HELPFUL IN GETTING EVERYTHING SMOOTHED OUT AND i WAS ABLE TO SEE DR MARTEL AGAIN. hE ASSURED ME THAT THIS WAS A HORRIBLE MISUNDERSTANDING AND MY EYE HEALTH WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT TO HIM. i WISH i COULD HAVE SPOKE TO HIM BEFORE i WROTE MY PRIOR REVIEW. i AM SORRY AND HE IS A WONDERFUL DOCTOR. hE KNOWS HIS STUFF MAYBE NEEDS A LITTLE HELP IN THE FRONT OFFICE. MY CONTINUED VISION IS WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO ME AND YES YOU WILL WAIT BUT THAT IS BECAUSE HE IS SO GOOD AND EVERYONE WANTS TO GET IN TO SEE HIM. HE TOLD ME NEXT TIME i HAVE A PROBLEM LIKE THIS WAS TO CALL IN AND DIRECTLY TALK TO HIM WITH i NICE HUG IN THE END. HE DEFINITELY IS A COMPASSIONATE DOCTOR AND CARES TOTALLY ABOUT THE EYE ISSUES. i WAS TOTALLY BLIND IN MY RIGHT EYE AND NOW i CAN SEE AGAIN. WHAT MORE CAN A PATIENT ASK FOR.

Wonderful doctor who really cares about his patients. He stayed until after 8 pm to perform emergency procedures numerous times.

we love Dr. Martell, we put up with his office. Long waits on hold for optical department, long waits for Doctor, frequently over an hour.

I got too many different answers to the same questions in my follow up.

My family and I have been patients of Dr. Martel's for almost 10 years. Our first experience was with our softball playing daughter who had lost the vision in one eye during a game (on a Saturday). We didn't know who to call, but through the yellow pages found Dr. Martel. They took us in right away. I can't say enough about Dr. Martel----he is brilliant, compassionate, spends as much time as needed with us and explains EVERYTHING. It's so obvious he loves what he does. His office is excellent in all that they do. I would definitely recommend Dr. Martel to everyone I know.
