Dr. Martens obtained his undergraduate degree from the Richard T. Farmer School of Business from Miami University in Oxford, OH. He then attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at University Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. Dr. Martens did an additional year of fellowship subspecialty training in foot and ankle surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. Dr. Martens is practicing at the Orthopaedic Institute of Dayton.

Had a fantastic experience with Dr Martens. He is great listener and was able to quickly diagnose my heal pain. He treated me and has outlined a comprehensive recovery program. If you are having any foot problems he is your single best option!

I interviewed two other surgeons prior to choosing Dr Martens for my bunion surgeries. Dr Martens skill-set, knowledge, and excellent care helped me feel at ease pre and post-op. Dr Martens is easy to talk to and took the time to answer all my questions. The staff at Orthopedics Institute of Dayton are incredible as well. Highly recommend!

Didn't receive nerve block for major foot surgery causing severe intractable pain for days. No follow-up call from his staff to check on me. Jagged crazy looking incision with haphazardly placed stitches. Never again!

I recently had foot surgery with Dr Martens. I highly recommend this practice! I was most impressed with the staff; from the front desk to the exam room, everyone I interacted with was attentive and quality focused. Dr Martens was wonderful as well, he took the time to answer my questions and explain the procedure I was having. The day of surgery was the same, as was my post-op recovery. This is a quality doctor and staff, who practice excellence in their medical specialty!

Great ankle surgeon and very easy to work with. I was referred to him from a friend that has worked with him in the OR. My friend stated he is respectful to staff and if he needed ankle surgery, he would go to Dr. Martens. I figured since he works with a lot of ortho surgeons in the area, I should take his advise. I am 10 weeks post op and could not have been more happy with choosing Dr. Martens for my surgery. So far I am healing well and did not get a surgical site infection. His secretary, Pam, was SO sweet and called back promptly with answers to all of my questions. I will refer this team to all and everyone I know who has ankle problems. I truly believe this surgery changed my life for the better and I could not be more thankful.

Dr. James P Martens is a wonderful surgeon. He explains everything in detail and his work on my toe was perfection. I don't have any pain anymore and you can't even see the scars. I would recommend Dr. Martens over and over again!!!

Hi, Dr James Martens, Woodman Dr., Dayton, Ohio, is an excellent doctor/surgeon! I recently broke my right ankle. I had never seen this doctor before, but he practiced at the Ortho office I go to for other issues. Well, I was up & walking w/o a cast or cane in 5 short weeks!! I followed his orders & I barely had any pain!! What is truly amazing is the fact that I only had 2 PT sessions!! The physical therapist could not believe how fast I healed & the strength I had in that ankle. I have 9 screws in my ankle bone. I also had 16 stitches after surgery, & I can barely see a scar!! Dr Martens did a wonderful job getting me back on my feet w/o complications!! I have a girlfriend that broke her ankle a couple months before me & she is still recovering...9 mos. later, compared to my 5 weeks!! If you want an excellent Ortho doc, please see Dr James Martens, you won’t be sorry!! He also has a wonderful personality & explains everything he did to your understanding!!
