Dr. James Reed Mcferrin, MD

James Reed McFerrin has been an Asst. Clinical Professor, Vanderbilt Medical Center, Department of Psychiatry since 1982, after completion of psychiatry residency and serving as chief resident at Vanderbilt, at which time he began his private practice of General Adult Psychiatry. Since december 1995, he has served as a clinical director and supervises Vanderbilt residents and medical students at the VA Hospitals in Nashville.

Certifications include the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology January 30, 1984, with a Medical License from the State of Tennessee in February 1975. Dr. McFerrin was a flight Surgeon and Senior Flight Surgeon, US Army 1976-1979, serving at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and Fort Campbell, Kentucky with assignments to Germany for field operations. He was trained at the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences in Memphis as a recipient of the Health Professions Scholarship Program. His various memberships and associations include the American …Psychiatric Association, general member, the Tennessee Medical Association, Nashville Academy of Medicine, Tennessee Psychiatric Association,and the American Society of Addiction Medicine. He consults for the Employment Assistance Counseling at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and chairs the Physicians Well being Committee of HCA Centennial Medical Center. Hospital Affiliations include Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Department of Psychiatry, active staff, Veterans Administration Tennessee Valley Healthcare System, Parthenon Pavilion Psychiatric Hospital at Centennial Medical Center as a clinical director of the Intensive Treatment Program.
