Dr. James Alan Olson, MD

He doesn't mince words and can be borderline rude, even to the vulnerable patient or accompanying family. It took me a long time to adjust to his behavior and to recognize that in his own way he was kind. He was also very methodical and thorough, I could tell he prides himself in his work. Unfortunately, I did experience some complications from my surgery. He did not accept these complications as "his problem" and instead I several months visiting other departments all wind to end up back on the table with another colon and rectal surgeon because he stopped seeing patients with Medicaid. If you enjoy the manner of communication where when being explained something there's a sarcastic and almost condescending/playful attitude to it all, he's your guy. Not a bad person by any means.

I saw Dr. Olson four times in connection with a recent surgery; for the diagnosis, before and after the surgery at the hospital, at the time of removal of the stitches, and for the follow-up visit. Dr. Olson listens carefully, is thorough in his analysis, takes time to discuss and weigh options, and performed my surgery effectively. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Olson doesn't mince words. He's direct and to the point but will stop to explain if the patient has questions even though he seems to be in a hurry.

Dr. Olson does not take the time nor does he demonstrate a desire to communicate at the patient level. He lacks emotional intelligence with his patients. He possesses the medical knowledge but he only communicates at a high level using medical terminology irrespective of whether or not the patient is fully comprehending the information. He is indifferent to taking the time to adjust his communication even when asked to simplify things for the benefit of the patient. Additionally, he is oblivious to the family and if they are able to follow his conversation. Very poor bed side manners.

Dr Olsen took great care during and after surgery. He was attentive to the details.

Dr. Olson has the worst bedside manners of any physician I have ever met. From inappropriate jokes, to yelling at staff members, to blatent statements of disregard, it was a horrible experience. You can have a doctor who knows how to use a scalpal, but without compassion or any sense of what is appropriate, you will be disappointed. Find another option of you can!

We were sent to this doctor because we could get in quickly and my husbands in a lot of pain accompanied with lots of rectal bleeding. On my first question I was told he just explained that and I must of not been paying attention I thought this guy has zero patience and I let it slide as the conversation continued it got worse he was was about to perscribe a oral antibiotic and I asked if it had sulfa in it as my husband has an allergy,he said I don't think so,and I said your not sure and he said your about two minutes from being asked to leave I said what! He said I wasn't the patient so I said we don't have to wait two minutes I will be in the lobby,who does this guy think he is ! He was way out of line,he won't be seeing my husband in surgery,a very mistreated family member.

If you value yourself and loved ones,you will seek another doctor!! He has only one opinion...HIS. I asked him for topical pain medication and he told me he did not want me for a patient and Iwould have to get another doctor. All he wanted to do what was financially best for him...not me. He also lied to me. His office staff ALWAYS had an attitude and were very unprofessional. These people have no business being with people who need!!! I am a nurse and have never had this encounter in my life from a physician. RUN don't walk!!!

Dr Olson is personable great bed side manner knowledgable. He listened to everything I had to say, answered all question. He has about the best bedside manner I've ever encountered. I was in the hospital for 5 days, he visited every day alway when he said he would. He was upbeat with a since of humor that was refreshing rather then the holier then thou additude most surgeons have. All in all I highly recommend him over any other doctor in his field in the valley.

Dr. Olson took the time to explain what was going to happen before the surgery and made sure to answer all of my wife's questions following my surgery. He was friendly and professional.
