Dr. James A. Phalen, MD

I could write a long post about how bad it was but he isn’t with my time. Read the other reviews. He has the worst bedside manner with a side of “ I am a doctor therefore God” complex. Don’t take your kid to him. Simple as that.

Dr. Phalen is thorough and patient. My concerns with my child were looked into, and what was needed was I as a parent had to change some ways that I did things for the better to help my child be better. Simple things we think are ok for our children that really aren't. Never the less, establishing these things helped improve my relationship with my child and helped her advance in school. So me thinking ADHD,ID or even ASD was not the case. I appreciate his rule out process so now my child does not have a diagnosis following her that she doesn't have.

I Don't Recommend Dr. A Phalen for your Child. Only Judges on Eye Contact. Doesn't take the time to hear what you have to say. Very Poor Testing!!! He doesn't understand what we go through at home! Judges Poorly!!!

Dr. Phalen believes that autism is “overdiagnosed,” and is eager to claim that children don’t actually have autism, that they are “recovered” from autism when none of their behavior has changed, and he is eager to deny services and therapy for children with ASD because he says they “don’t really need it.” He is frequently sarcastic and disrespectful. I don’t know how someone so aggressively bent on denying care to children can have a career in the medical field, but we will not be allowing any of our children to be under his care ever again.

In 2007 -Told me my son could not have autism because he looked him in the eye. Kept us purposefully (his words) waiting for 1 hour past our appt time to see how my son would react. Literally yelled about not eliminating gluten (son was later diagnosed celiac). Mocked my efforts thus far of using nutrition & OT. -written assessment w/ WRONG info. Like: I drank during pregnancy! Did not wait for neurology findings (all occurring in tandem) to write it. -behaved differently around my DH than Me

He misdiagnosed our child. He told us that our child was "recovered" from Autism Spectrum Disorder when there is no cure for Autism. We believe his goal is to take away the diagnosis so that our child will not be able to receive services that she needs now and in the future. We don't know why he has done this to our family but we recently found out that he has also done this to other military families. We have no idea why he is doing this (deliberate misdiagnosing kids with Autism as "Recovered" with his associates at S.A.M.M.C. We hope the appropriate officials will investigate what is happening in that "Autism Clinic".

Horrible experience.

Will make sure your child is under the care of the proper specialists, very concerned for the patients well being.
