Dr. James Edward Phillips, MD

Dr Phillips did my TKR in 2007 and I have been so happy ever since. I came to him after 5 years of pain and he immediately diagnosed my issue. He explained I needed a knee replacement and it was up to me when I wanted to do it, but he didn’t want me crawling in one day begging for surgery. Due to work demands I delayed 6 months I was pain free almost immediately (except of course for the surgical site and swelling). I could go up and down stairs without crutches in just 4 days. Yeah, it takes time fir the swelling to go away, but the new knee itself is fantastic! I now live in Texas and need my other knee replaced and would gladly come to Boston to have him do it if it were possible. My next surgeon has a high standard to live up to! I highly recommend Dr Phillips.

Dr. Phillip's did my 2 knee replacements (as well as my mothers hip). Surgeries and follow up excellent, Dr. Phillip's is a super-talented, concerned and dedicated surgeon. I would give the highest recommendation to anyone asking!

I've been a patient for quite a while now and my pain has worsened and his response was lose weight and walk. I did it w no improvement and now he says I know have arthritis and that's gotten worse, bones on knees narrowed and still he says I should just push through the pain, then quotes books he's read...he comes across as rude with comments like what if you were back in the olden days where you don't have an option for surgery then what would you do? If you were back in little house on the prairie and had knee problems and severe pain but you needed to plow the fields to survive what would you do? I have since found another surgeon that has helped me and shows concern and offers helpful options.

I had 2 knee replacements then developed an infection in one of the knees. Dr. Phillips immediately sent me to NEBH for immediate cleansing and repair of parts. I would readily recommend him for any surgical needs. He is efficient and caring. Wouldn't go to anyone else.

Saw this physician about three years ago because of arthritic pain in my knee. Without any exam, he declared "it's all in your spine! " He told i had three options: do nothing and it will get worse; do anything and it will get worse or see his "boss" for another opinion. Selected the latter who sympathized with my comments about Dr Phillips, who could quote Dr Phillips' comment about my spine while shaking his head, and then had my knee x-rayed. Yes, knee arthritis, not my spine was the problem. This competent orthopedist later referred me to a different surgeon at the practice for knee replacement surgery. A year later (it takes that long for full recovery) I am walking beautifully again! And NO I am not prejudiced - all 3 of my children are biracial; 3 grands are also biracial while two are black.
