James Russell, MD

Dr. Russell is in Charleston, WV now and we are blessed to have him here. He is very knowledgeable and passionate for his patients. I've been diagnosed with ALS. Dr. Russell, Leslie and their ALS Team is amazing and so very helpful, compassionate and I know my family and I are not alone. Great team!!!

It was my second meeting with this physician and his associates in two years. Just like the first time, at the beginning of the appointment I talked to a resident and a first-year medical student for about 40 minutes and Dr. Russel stopped by at the end of the appointment for ~5-7 minutes. A resident mostly asked questions and did some simple tests without offering her opinion on the cause of the problem, unless I myself made some suggestions. A medical student did not know much: my guess is at the first year of medical school they are all like this. Dr. Russel showed up completely unprepared: it seemed that he did not read the history of the problem and probably did not have much time to talk to a resident about details. Hopefully, the medication he prescribed and solution he suggested will work or I might have to look for a different neurologist.

Dr. Russell spent a great deal of time with me and helped me understand the cause for my neuropathy.

Dr.Russel' fellow did most of the job and very well. Dr. Russel showed up for 5 min at the end of the appointment and shook my hand. His hand was wet apparently after restroom. Most of useful infirmation came from the fellow and a assistant medical student

Dr. Russell is wonderful! Probably saved my life. Promptly diagnosed and treated my severe case of Guillain Barre Syndrome. So smart and confident. Would highly recommend him.

Lousy attitude. Overbooks. Go elsewhere

I had told my endocrinologist that my neurologist showed no interest in finding out why I was developing small fiber neuropathy. She said she would refer me to someone who would: James Russell. Dr. Russell ordered a test that 4 rheumatologists and 2 neurologists had failed to order despite clear indications that it should have been! And it was extremely positive! I have now been directed to a scleroderma specialist, and have hopes that he can help to slow down my disease. Dr. Russell is wonderful!
