Dr. James A. Sotrop, MD

This office use to be good and has become uncaring and treats you like you are a nobody since they joined with Florida Medical Group. My husband has a serious blood issue that only Dr. Sotrop seemed to be able to diagnose for use. For that we will always be grateful. Lately the patient care has been awful. The doctor and staff are rude and act like they do not have the time of day for you. They brush your concerns off like your health is not important to them. I was actually hung up on when I expressed concerns I had after being given bad information from the front office staff. Needless to say, we are moving on and will not be patients at this office any longer. Are health is too important to use.

Was a patient for years. Had regular CBC testing including annual psa. Staff would “call” me with results. Had blood work done by life insurance company. Got a call from my agent stating I likely had prostate cancer as evidenced by abnormally high psa results. I had symptoms that I saw him and his arnp for and was always told it was a” infection “ and given a antibiotic for. I NEVER was told about my 2 plus years of elevated pass levels prior. I requested to receive paper copies and was floored to see my clear results which the dr missed! His answer was to why it happened was well I thought my assistant arnp told you and she thought I did! Bull crap. I since have received radiation treatment and high dose radiation seed implants. Leaving me impotent but alive. Even though I had overwhelming proof, lawyers won’t take the case because I am in “remission “. Look out if and when it returns

I have been seeing Dr. Sotrop and ARNPs for several years. I have been very happy with the care and attention I have received.

My impression of Dr.Sotrop during my first visit was very promising. My second and final visit, however, was disastrous. During my initial appointment with Dr. Sotrop, he seemed genuinely interested in my medical complexities and took his time in discussion reviewing my concerns. Because of my numerous spinal fusion surgeries and recent medical abnormalities, Dr. Sotrop instructed me to be sure to obtain my medical records for his review. I left elated that day believing I had found a dedicated, caring doctor. This enthusiasm was short lived. Dr. Sotrop was also going to take over management of my prescriptions. Doing so first required blood work, so blood work was completed. Medical records were also obtained. A follow-up appointment was scheduled out of necessity due to blood work results. I arrived on time for my 12:00 PM follow-up appointment with my medical records in my possession. The medical assistant mentioned that I was the doctor’s last appointment for the… day. Dr. Sotrop came in shortly after my vitals were taken and recorded. He asked for the reason of my visit. I told him that I understood my blood work had to be reviewed with me. Dr. Sotrop reviewed my labs with me in detail, carefully explaining each section/category. We then began going over my current prescriptions. In doing so, I shared with him the difficulties I’ve had with my neurosurgeon in getting his office to cooperate with my insurance company regarding a Lyrica prescription he had written. The insurance company wanted additional authorization because of the dosage. I explained the neurosurgeon’s reasoning for the dosage and indicated that his reasoning was documented in his notes, which were within the medical records I held. My discussion with Dr. Sotrop continued for a few more moments and I once again made a brief reference to the medical records in my possession. Dr. Sotrop then truly shocked me! His demeanor, his tone of voice and even his posture changed. He sounded and appeared to have become angry and he told me that he would not read or review my medical records as he “doesn’t have the time.” Although his tyrannical behavior rendered me momentarily speechless, I managed to reminded him that HE had earlier asked me to obtain and provide a copy of my records. He responded by objecting to the size of the records, (1/2 inch thick; I actually measured it when I returned home). Dr. Sotrop then began to lecture me about a “patient’s responsibility” to offer their doctor a verbal “summary of issues.” At this point, I had been in consult with him for approximately ten minutes, which had been utilized thus far to discuss the lab work and current medications. I hadn’t yet been given an opportunity to summarize any concerns or issues! With my medical records still in my possession, I began to gather my personal belongings while he continued to rant and lecture. Once he realized this, the lecture stopped, he acknowledged my leaving and he offered well wishes on finding another doctor. He also offered a refund for my office visit payment. On the drive home, I kept going over and over what had just happened. I searched my heart and questioned myself. Was I rude, demanding or incompetent? I can honestly say no. I left that day without Dr. Sotrop knowing that I had placed my medical records in chronological order, highlighted only three items of concern and marked them with paper clips for quick reference to make his review easy. I left without him knowing the extent of my surgical history that includes neck fusions and lower lumbar fusions. I left without him knowing of a recent suspected diagnosis of axonal sensorimotor peripheral neuropathy which requires a neuromuscular specialist for diagnosis confirmation. I left without getting a recommendation for a neuromuscular specialist. I left without being given the opportunity to offer a “verbal summary” of my issues, the proof of which I held in my hands. Dr. Sotrop’s true self was revealed during this, my second and last visit. I found him to be prideful, not humble; rude and arrogant, not well mannered, courteous or respectful; condescending, not professional. His staff, on the other hand, was just the opposite. They were efficient, polite, accommodating and professional, especially the young lady that performed the blood draw. Did Dr. Sotrop just have a bad day? Was he just anxious to leave because I was his last patient? Neither justifies his behavior. Such a prideful person usually never admits fault or offers an apology, so neither will be expected. I offer this review to gently persuade other potential patients to look elsewhere for a committed, caring doctor. You won’t find one here.

Made an appointment, third time going in to see them. Some UPS guy walks in, asks if he can be squeezed in, and ends up taking my appointment. I waited half an hour, when I was the one who had an appointment, just to give blood, and charged for it of course. Staff needs to make a gigantic improvement in customer service. However, the doctor and ARNP seem to be pretty good.

Doctor Sotrop is Excellent. Very professional as well as his staff. The Practitioners are great also. They make you feel genuinely cared for from arrival to exit. Great knowledge, years of experience and courtesy. In a world which seems to be caring less and less, you feel genuine care here. Something that is becoming a lost art elsewhere.

I have been going to doc for over 30 years. He's always been kind, thorough,and patient. I recommend him very highly to anyone who wants a good all round doctor.

I have been a patient of Dr. Sotrop for around 8 or 9 years and I just love him. He is very knowledgeable, thorough, kind and easy to relate to. I have the utmost confidence in him. In fact, I have referred about 6 of my friends to him. I highly recommend him. His office staff is wonderful, I can't say enough positive things about this Doctor.

He is an exceptional diagnostician and a great primary care doctor.

Dr. Sotrop is a decent guy, however, his staff can be a bit scatter brained. Dr. Sotrop could focus a little more on his patient, rather than the computer in the exam room. He quickly goes through the exam while clicking away and there is a sense of disconnect. I never feel confident when I leave his office that anything was really thorough. He is a nice guy, just needs to focus more on the patient and remember, we aren't doctors, we are patients. We need you to explain things a little better.
