Dr. James Ray Trahan, MD

I have been on ADHD meds since 2003 and when my former Psych doc retired I went to him. Spent 20 minutes telling me I should quit smoking and that would fix all my problems, talks about prescribing Chantix and says he won't prescribe anything until I undergo rounds of testing that would take over two months.

I have been going to Dr Trahan for several years,and have felt he is the best for me. He was very patient waiting for me to talk thru my issues. When I was hospitalized I was given (home work). I was able to think through different things then write my thoughts down . His calmness when meeting keeps we calmer than I would be able to otherwise.

This man diagnoses people with dissociative identity after talking to you for 20 minutes...no tests, no questions, just by looking at you, or listening to some things you say.

This man is one of the worst Doctors I have ever dealt with in my entire 20 years of therapy. If you want a Dr. who is mean, arrogant, narccissistic and a control freak, then go to him. After seeing this man, I have gotten worse.

I should have reported Dr Trajan to the State. We admitted our elderly father to Dr Trahans care suspecting an early/mid stage dementia diagnosis and he did not even round on him in the hospital for 5 days. I started calling at 3, and at day 4 his nurse apologetically told me "I think I should tell you, Dr. Trahan does not typically speak with the family." Seriously, a man is hospitalized with short term memory loss and related issues and you will only speak with him? Finally after being hounded Dr Trahan saw him on day 5 or 6 and Dad snowed him. He didn't see the issues...hmmm maybe because he spent 5 minutes with him. Save your Family heartache and take gerontology/dementia issues directly to Dr Bender in Des Moines. Once dad saw him we made progress in dealing with dementia. Trahan is most stiff, arrogant, negligent physician I have ever come across- and given my husband is an MD we know a number of doctors. I prefer to call him Dr Tragic, as its a shame he is in… the position he is in and people aren't getting the medical attention they are seeking.

Been waiting to get medical records from him and it takes for ever. Keeps giving me the run around as to why its not done. Very poor service and seems to be more concerned with him self than the patients. I would not recommend him to any one.

Our child was admitted to Mary Greeley and was under Trahan's care. The doctor refuses to meet with parents to discuss the most traumatic period of our lives. Arrogant.

My daughter has been treated for mental health issues for years. After an episode requiring hospitalization, she ended up in the care of Dr Trahan. She was checked in on Fridahy and immediately diagnosed as DID. She was given a book describing symptoms, behaviors, etc. After meeting with the doctor on Saturday, he had taken her off her meds and prepped her for release on Sunday. She was sent home with no meds, no knoweledge of how to handle this issue, and no follow up on his part. Needless to say, she ended up being hospitalized shortly thereafter. After this situation, I have heard from many doctors and therapists that this is his MO. If you can avoid him, do it! He made our lives difficult and set my daughter back years.

Well, if you can get beyond his good looks, you'll find a caring, considerate wonderful person!
