Dr. James F. Winchester was named division chief of the nephrology and hypertension service at Beth Israel Medical Center in 2004. He was awarded the MB degree in 1969 and MD in 1982 on presentation of his research on adsorbent substances to treat poisoning and kidney failure. His textbooks (Replacement of Renal Function by Dialysis, and Clinical Management of Poisoning in Drug Overdose) in several editions have become reference texts. He has an outstanding career as teacher, scientist, and clinician, and is an internationally acclaimed researcher, with a strong interest in the pathophysiology of chronic renal failure, dialysis and sorbents in the treatment of kidney disease and drug and chemical toxicology. Past funding includes NIH, National Library of Medicine, and industry giants. He has published over 300 articles and chapters.
