My son is about to turn 2 in a couple weeks. He was born with 2 -CHD. We live in CT, went to Yale the day we left the hospital for diagnosis, evaluation and on-going monitoring. But, after extensive research Dr Q was the only option. When it comes to pediatric cardio-thoracic surgery we decided we wanted the best most experienced surgeon and Dr Q was it. When you're dealing with the life of your child I will not rate personality or bedside manner. I will rate results and results alone. We spoke/met Dr Q twice. Once, two weeks before the surgery and once the surgery was complete. He was extremely confident each time and assured us everything would be fine. Riddled with emotion you have to trust any surgeon, but especially a pediatric surgeon, let alone a heart surgeon. Once the surgery was done, Dr Q said, everything went as planned, he (my son) will never remember this and you (wife and i) will never forget it. That's the best thing we could ever here. Jan 2016 we went for our follow… up at Yale and they said everything looks great, see you in a year. We just had our 2017 follow up at Yale. We don't have to go back until 2019!!! To put this in perspective, we expect to be a children's hospital every 6-12 months until my son was 10! This was the best decision my family ever made and trust me, Yale didn't want to look se my revenue and pushed for us to have the surgery their. Go to Dr Q! Last thing, his assistant, can remember her name, makes up for any lack of MD personality. She was awesome, always kept us in the loop and even followed up months later, just because. I'd give more stars if I could

It was under unfortunate circumstances that I met Dr Q, but he is a gentleman who I have had the luck and pleasure of meeting just over 19 years ago. It was 3 months after the birth of my son, who during his well-care check it was determined that he had a bit of a heart murmur. Devastating in it of itself, that news could not quite compare to what we would learn on a subsequent visit to the hospital for further evaluation. It was there that we learned that this innocent 3 month old baby was born with multiple severe congenital heart defects. Nothing a layman could begin to understand or even pronounce. Take the feeling of getting hit in the gut by Mike Tyson and multiply it by infinity and that is how we felt. After some research, we learned of an innovative cardiothoracic surgeon right here in NY at Columbia Presbyterian (now Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of NY Presbyterian). His name, Dr. Jan Quaegebeur or Dr. Q for short. Dr. Q, at the time, was one of two surgeons in… the world who could successfully operate on my child. He is renowned world-wide for his talent so much so that he flies all over the world to perform his magic and patients fly in specially to see him. Dr. Q is an amazing electrician, plumber and tailor. He performed 3 successful surgeries on my child in his first few years of life. My son has thrived with no restriction and like I said it is 19 years later. Priceless! For these last 19 years, we have always known that our son would need one last surgery ... to increase the size of his artificial pulmonary artery and valve to one that would serve him the rest of his long adult life. Well, today is the day we got home from Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. Yes, 19 years later Dr. Q is still there performing his magic. This man is one of a kind and words can not describe the gratitude that we have. There aren't enough stars to click on to accurately rate this gentleman.

I have family and friends that are doctors, and work with physicians all day as well, and can tell you that if any of these doctors would have the misfortune of needing heart surgery to be performed on their own family, they would want Dr. Q to be the one to do it. (They also said good words about Dr. Basha but Dr. Q has been there much longer and has established a very strong reputation among doctors in our area.) I had the honor of having Dr. Q. perform open-heart surgery on me earlier this year. A couple months later, I was able to run around and dance and play with my kids like the healthy mother I have always wanted to be. As I celebrate life each day, I give thanks for the entire team at Columbia that made this happen for me, and pray for them and for their own good health so they can continue to help children and adults increase their changes for normal, healthy lives. It is troubling how many people put so much value being coddled. Please keep in mind, it's not a spa, it's a… hospital, and an awsome one at that. If you take comfort in knowing one of the most skilled and experienced surgeons in the WORLD is going to have your (or your family member's) life in his hands, and knowing that you (or your child) have the best odds of surviving a serious procedure, then Dr. Q is the surgeon to get.

We did the surgery with this surgeon about 8 months ago. It was a simple surgery they didn't do it properly, after 8 months now they are saying surgery is unsuccessfull lets repeat the surgery again. When I met surgeon he was very rude, he said thats it we need to do it again not sure why it came off.

Dr. Quaegebeur operated on our daughter 15 years ago for transposition of the great arteries. He saved our daughters life. He is an incredibly talented surgeon who is truly an angel sent to earth!Although a very stressful time for us years ago, he assured us our daughter would be fine. She is, and now 15 years later, no complications, no medication, no restrictions and an honors student in high school. Not a day goes by that we don't think of this wonderful doctor and all he has given us. He was a blessing to us 15 year ago. Thank you Dr. Quaegebeur, thank you for so much!
