Janet has helped me process a seemingly insurmountable pile of emotional trauma. I am immensely grateful for her existence.

Janet behaved unprofessionally and made me feel uncomfortable numerous times during our sessions. Just some examples: In our first session I was telling her about a troubling relationship I was in, which Janet felt appropriate to comment on with “Wow, he’d old enough to be your dad huh”. At the end of this first session, she felt it was appropriate to lean in and hug me as I was leaving, without any invitation to be touched from me. During another session, despite being aware of the substance abuse issues in my family, Janet jokingly told me that if we get another 4 years of Trump she might end up in the substance abuse rehab I work at. This was an unprofessional and uncomfortable moment. It only came up because we had a silent period during which we just stared at each other waiting for the other to say something. Rather than ask relevant questions or anything about me, she chose this absurd route. Janet also scheduled all of our sessions about a 2 weeks to a month apart until I… finally confronted her about this. She was judgmental and did not have any interest in investing in me as her patient during a time that I was seeking genuine help. I stopped going to see her without ever calling her, and now that a few weeks have passed she has sent me a large bill, including fees for missing appointments. Unfortunately, she was not someone I felt comfortable contacting again so this is the case. She also never contacted me to see if something had happened or if I was okay, because that is the kind of person she is. In my opinion, Janet is the kind of doctor who has either been in the practice too long or was never the right fit for it to begin with.

I saw Dr. Bowles 10 years ago and I still refer people to her. Sh e helped me through a very difficult time and taught me about boundaries.
