Dr. Janet Marie Dougherty, MD

Two stars for being thorough which is appreciated. If you are looking for a good bedside manner and someone who you can be open with and speak to with ease look somewhere else. Dr. Dougherty was condescending and I found it hard to even finish my appointment. I am sure she is a very competent physician and the staff was lovely. I hope I just caught her on a bad day.

Dr. Dougherty has cared for my sister for many, many years. Peggy is disabled and requires a significant amount of patience and listening and follow-up. Dr. Dougherty has been nothing short of great in her patient endurance in this regard. Tammy has been wonderful as well. We are sorry that Dr. D. left the Burke practice. That is how we found this site because we are trying to coordinate insurance plans that include her in network. But I had to add to the conversation because we have had a good experience. As far as the fellow commentor with the hair regrowth issue - I hope that rx in question was not for finisteride (google: Post Finisteride Syndrome). In our humble opinion, no caring doctor would prescribe this dangerous drug (FDA approved or not). Perhaps this is a reason she was hesitant...

I have been going to Burke Family Practice for almost 7 years, since we moved here. I originally was seen by Dr. Amy Nobu who was excellent and I was upset when she left. I didn't think she could be replaced. I was delighted when I met Dr. Dougherty. She is extremely knowledgable, thorough and understanding and doesn't rush you. She really cares about her patients.

Been going to her for a long time but in the last year or two have noticed a distinct change in her and office. She has become much more curt,and impatient. Was told I could only make an appointment for one condition at a time,and was told to bring up an issue at the beginning not the end of the appointment by her and to make an appointment for that at another time.Perhaps she is not feeling well and is irritable. Has had a very ignorant tech assist her but she is replaced by a nurse now. Perhaps it is all the new rules. Seems like it takes a while to find things on the computer. Hope what ever is wrong is solve. Hate to have to find a new practice.

My wife and I have been patients of Janet for 12 plus years. None of the previous negative comments accurately describe Dr. Dougherty. She is in my opinion (I am a retired hospital and health care administrator with 33 years experience) an absolutely caring and fully competent physician. She has helped both my wife and me through several difficult treatment regimes. Available after normal business hours she has always been there when she was needed. Her knowledge of pharmaceuticals and drug interaction is superb. Yes, on occasion difficulties arose with the front office but not unreasonably so and all were corrected. Referrals from a primary care provider are very important and those provided by Dr. Dougherty have with one exception have been excellent. There is aways appropriate follow-up and she is highly recommended.

To begin , my experience with my first visit to Burke Family Practice was really discouraging. When I called back with questions the staff was condescending and rude. Furthermore, when I asked my pharmacy to request a refill from Dr Dougherty , the Dr denied it, mandating a scheduled appointment. The reason I make note of this gouging , over-zealous profit making requests... is that the prescription was for hair regrowth (very commonly refilled by phone or fax). It isot a dangerous or controlled substance which would make the denial and appointment requirement understandable. Please understand -- two other REPUTABLE physicians were happy to fill my request without greedily demanding an appointment for profit. What a terrible reflection on the medical community. It used to be about the people ... not just about the money. I relate going to Burke Family to going in for an oil change. They are going to find or leverage anything for your money ... not your well-being.

I found Dr. Dougherty to be condescending and rude. As I paused for a second because I couldn't remember the name of a medicine I took several months ago, she seemed irritated and lectured me about how I had to tell her everything so she could make an accurate diagnosis, so then I try to tell her everything pertinent to my condition, and she is impatient, cutting me off a lot midsentence, and then actually telling me that I had to stop talking because we only had 15 minutes for the appointment... I waited 45 minutes for that kind of rushing? Maybe because it was a Friday afternoon and she wanted to get out of there, but I will not be going back.

Dr Dougherty is a very professional and compassionate doctor. She never rushes me and always takes every concern of mine seriously. I have had many health issues, and she does not dismiss any of them or try to send me off to someone else. She really tries to evaluate my symptoms and listens to me! She is really an exemplary example of what most people are looking for in a doctor. If you have gone to doctors that start to make you feel that you are "crazy" because they can't determine your diagnosis, please see her. She will listen and not make you feel that you are crazy.
