Dr. Janice Carolyn Niver, MD

Scheduled an appointment with Dr. Niver to discuss my paranoia and homicidal thoughts. She made no effort to ask questions and find the root of the problem. Instead, her advice was to stay away from people and then I wouldn’t be able to hurt them. Turns out I was actually experiencing psychotic delusions, but Janice was just perplexed on how to help!

Irresponsible, flippant disregard for the safety of her patient or the consequences of her recommendations. I saw Dr. Niver for the treatment of my depression and anxiety, and in order to treat this she prescribed me Zoloft, as well as continuing a prescription from previous doctor for trazadone to treat sleep problems. After a few weeks of taking the Zoloft, it sent me into a state of hypomania, and shortly after, after the hypomanic episode, a bout of suicidal ideation. I was made aware before beingprescribed the medication that this may be a possibility, and so notified Dr. Niver's office, who promptly told me, through a nurse, to stop taking the Zoloft, and start taking Seraquel. I asked this nurse if the Seraquel was safe to take with the trazadone, and the nurse said that yes, it was safe to continue to take it with the new medication. With this recommendation, I took both of these medications. The first time I did so, I experienced extreme paranoia, audio hallucinations, and… when I went to get help, a fainting spell. When I notified the good doctors office, their only recommendation they had was to discontinue the medication. Luckily for me my father is in the medical field, and told me that the fainting was a big deal, and told me to immediately make an appointment with a primary care physician to make sure there were no more extreme issues behind the fainting. This physician told me that trazadone and Seraquel are a known bad combination, and both lower blood pressure quite severely, which is what led to the fainting. Upon a follow-up phone appointment with Dr.Niver, she attempted to first suggest that these terrifying and quite frankly traumatic side effects were my own fault because I had been notified of the side effects of Seraquel upon prescription, though was forced to admit that hallucinations and fainting were not side effects I was notified of, and no possible side effects of the combination of trazadone and Seraquel were ever mentioned. Given the danger she put me in with the sinkable episode, and her refusal to take any responsibility, and indeed her attempt to place responsibility for her prescriptions and recommendations on my shoulders, I have immediately ended my time as her patient.
