Dr. Jann Gingold, PsyD

Her method of "therapy" primarily consisted of constant criticism and invalidation. I rarely got a full sentence out without her cutting me off to tell me what she had decided that I was feeling or what she believed my experience was. Trying to tell her otherwise was useless. She also constantly shamed me for my diagnosed mental illness, telling me it was my own fault and that I would never get better. Perhaps she just had a special hatred for me in particular, but I was truly astounded by how awful her behavior was.

I have been seeing Dr. Gingold at least twice a month for over 6 years now. She has helped me tremendously over the years with my severe depression and is consistently a great sounding board and confidant. Though I don't always agree with her personal or political views, overall she gives great advice and has a good heart. When we are stuck on a topic that makes me uncomfortable or that I don't agree with, I express this to her and she moves on. I was disappointed to see such negative reviews about someone I consider a very knowledgeable and sympathetic mental health professional. Pre-COVID all of our sessions were in person, but now we communicate over the phone which I like even better.

I DO NOT recommend this therapist. She violated professional ethics with me numerous times. These included naming other patient's "people" that they were having trouble with, who I ended up knowing. In addition, she brought her political views in CONSTANTLY after I asked her not to. I am the client, I should not be the one setting boundaries with this person. She came right out numerous times saying that a particular "belief" politically, was stupid and unintelligent. In addition, she talked about herself most of the time. This is not a professional person. Lastly, she is very unorganized and did not provide any type of structure with objectives. I wasted my money.

Attended couples therapy with my girlfriend. Dr. Gingold was unfair throughout the session. She continued to support my gf accusations even when they made no sense. She kept confronting me to respond to nonsense remarks and asked why didn't I just believe her. At one point Dr. G. Spoke directly to my gf and said that I probably have a mental illness she'd just read about on the internet. She proceeded to describe it to my gf and said ' and for that person it's all real although their partner isn't doing anything'. I later learned that after the session was over my gf stayed behind and talked more about me with Dr. G. Also when my gf got home Dr. G.called her and talked 20 minutes more about me and the relationship. I saw the phone record. Dr. G. Was unfair and biased throughout and showed no qualms about behaving that way.
