Born in a third-world country, Dr. Lin is an unusual hybrid. He has risen above his humble beginnings to experience both the joys of private practice, and a life of full-time academics. He left a thriving private practice in New York for a full-time academic career at Harvard. He has never regretted that decision but rather has relished in his role as a practitioner and educator. He loves his work and the continual opportunities to impact his patients, students, the profession, and the wider community. His …journey has been filled with numerous twists, and he would not have it any other way.
Jarshen Lin is currently the Director of Extramural Education, the Co-Director of the Diagnosis and Prevention course, and the Director of Pre-doctoral Endodontics at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine at Harvard University. Dr. Lin received his BDS from Chungshan Medial University in Taiwan, DDS degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, and his certificate in Endodontics from the University of Michigan. After serving 5 years at the test construction committee of National Board, he served as the endodontic expert on the Clinical Case Committee of National Dental Examiners Part II. He has played an active role at the Distant Learning Committee, the Annual Session Planning Committee, the Continuing Education Committee, and the Evidence-Based Endodontics Committee of the American Association of Endodontists. He is the immediate past president of the Greater Boston Chinese Dental Association and the past chairman of the Endodontic section of the American Dental Education Association.

Beyond his teaching and mentorship activities, Dr. Lin serves as endodontics editor for various dental textbooks and is a member of the editorial boards of several journals. His own publications can be found in dental journals such as the Journal of the American Dental Association, General Dentistry, and Journal of Endodontics.
In both academic and community settings, Dr. Lin is respected for his commitment to dental education and community outreach. He participates as a leader in numerous dental societies and associations, including the American Association of Endodontists, the American Dental Association, the National Board of Dental Examiners, the Master Tract of the Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Dental Education Association.
Dr. Lin is currently the Faculty Advisor for Harvard‚ Endodontic Study Club, Project Bridge (a nationally recognized volunteer program which provides dental care for homeless youth), Smile for Miles (a non-profit organization which provides dental care for disabled children), An Evening with Champions (an annual Jimmy Fund event sponsored Elliot House of Harvard College) and One World, One Dream (Harvard Medical Student Volunteer at Olympic Games). He has worked with Boston and Brookline Police for the Children Identification Program. In the past five years, he has been the co-chair of Ice Chips: Show of Champions, an annual event with more than six thousand participants to benefit Children‚ Hospital, Project Bridge, and Girl Scouts USA. Dr. Lin also serves on the Board of Governors of the Skating Club. In 2010, Dr. Lin received Dean‚ Community Service Award from Harvard Medical School for his contributions to the community.
